I love scouting. Everything from learning positional technique, the traits that transfer well to the NFL, and deciphering the best landing spots for each individual prospect.

One player, specifically, that earned a 2nd-3rd round grade for me pre-draft, and whose landing spot fascinates me is TE Oscar Delp.

For those that know Delp, or watched him at Georgia, you know how explosive the high-end plays can be for him. He logged 4.49 speed at the NFL Combine to back this up, and his flashes in the receiving game are stunning.

With the ball in his hands, he becomes a freight train of a runner that packs a huge punch against opposing defenses. The long speed, acceleration, and change of direction are all more than enough to be used in receiving opportunities for New Orleans.

These traits do make me wonder, however, why he was underutilized at Georgia. He recorded just 21 and 20 catches over his final two seasons, but posted an encouraging 7.8 YAC/REC.

Some of the "raw" elements of his game do show up in his tape, where you can see his lack of comfort in winning at the catch point and inexperience in his route running. He has no problem using his athleticism to separate, but struggled at times to out-maneuver cover defenders with refined technique.

This makes for an intriguing high-ceiling prospect that blends speed, athletic traits, and high effort in the blocking game with a need for reps and development. This profile was good enough to land Delp the 3rd ranked spot in my Rookie TE rankings, and a 6.25 (Depth) prospect grade.

As for the landing spot, New Orleans created an interesting situation to monitor over the next few years with their 3rd round selection, as Delp will likely sit behind 29 year-old Juwan Johnson, and newly-signed Noah Fant in 2026.

So the immediate impact will likely be low for Delp, but if he cleans up some of the technical deficiencies in his game and this Saints' coaching staff buys into his upside, the sky's the limit for him in 2027 and beyond. He's certainly someone I'm targeting in all of my Rookie Drafts, and you should pull the trigger on him too.
