LAB REPORTS
Bullpen Notes🗒️(9/3)
SFG: They were down 4-2 in the 8th and Ryan Walker pitched. He allowed a run after walking the lead off batter. I know people out there will see him and think he is high leverage. He is not. Smith is the closer so add him.
PIT: Bullpen game that saw Lake Bachar, Brandon Eisert, and Khristian Curtis make it into the 7th inning. Curtis would start the 7th and allow a run on his own and Yohan Ramirez came in and allowed an inherited run. Curtis got the win and Ramirez picked up the hold. With the score 4-2 Luke Weaver pitched a perfect 8th and picked up a hold. Mason Montgomery had the 9th and was perfect picking up the save. Monty has taken over the role as closer and he is looking like a beast. Weaver and Soto are the two options for holds.
TOR: Mason Fluharty pitched in the 5th and walked the bases loaded before allowing a couple inherited runners to score. He would return for the 6th and get a couple outs before Spencer Miles took over. Spencer Miles would pitch a perfect 7th as well and pick up the win. With a 5-3 lead Tyler Rogers pitched the 8th hitting a batter with two outs but picking up the hold. They would make it 6-3 in the 9th and Louis Varland let a couple batters on but picked up the save. I wish they would use the bullpen like this but they tend to use Miles for multiple innings and he starts at times. Rogers and Varland are two of the best in the 8th and 9th.
HOU: They were up 6-2 for the bullpen innings. Bennett Sousa had the 7th, Bryan Abreu pitched the 8th, and AJ Blubaugh finished them off in the 9th. Solid effort though no one picked up any holds or saves due to the score. The bullpen has been very good since mid July.
BAL: With the game tied at 3-3 Grant Wolfram got the final out of the 7th inning. Luis De Leon started the 8th with the game still tied and allowed a lead off single before getting a couple outs. They would bring on Yennier Cano with two outs, one on and he allowed a two run dong that put them down 5-3. Leon was charged with the loss and both guys were charged with a run. Albert Suarez allowed another run in the 9th to make it a 6-3 game. It is still Kittridge and Garcia as the best options for saves and my pick is Kitty.
BOS: Erik Miller battled through the 7th with the game tied. He walked a couple batters but picked up the win. Garrett Whitlock picked up the hold pitching a perfect 8th inning. With a 6-3 lead Aroldis Chapman pitched the 9th. He allowed a one out single and dong that made it 6-5 but got the next two outs to pick up the hold. A rare hiccup for Chapman but he is still a stud closer and Whitlock is the best option for holds.
CHC: As noted in the pregame notes the bullpen was shorthanded with Webb's injury and Palencia and Thielbar having pitched back to back. With a 2-1 lead in the 8th they used Ryan Zeferjahn and he was perfect picking up a hold. In the 9th Ryan Rolison pitched another perfect inning and picked up a save. Webb could be out for a couple days but is trying to avoid the IL. Rolison could get looks for saves if they decide to move to a committee. I think Palencia is the favorite but they could use Thielbar, Zef, and Rolison if they decide to go with the committee.
MIA: Cade Gibson pitched the 7th without issue. He gave up a lead off double in the 8th. Tyler Zuber would come on and he allowed Gibson's run plus one of his own. He was pulled for Dax Fulton who allowed a Zuber run. None of these guys should be rostered as they are the lower to mid leverage guys on this team.
KCR: Craig Kimbrel got a couple outs in the 7th with a 4-3 lead before being hit by a comebacker and removed. Nate Pearson would get the next four outs and they both picked up holds. Steven Cruz had the 9th but they had taken a 7-3 lead so he did not qualify for a save. Cruz is the closer and Pearson is the 8th inning man.
SEA: Carlos Vargas pitched the 7th and allowed a run that put them down 5-3. Gabe Speier pitched a perfect 7th down 5-4. Eduard Bazardo battled through the 8th but loaded the bases and allowed one run. They used Hoby Milner in the 9th and he also allowed a run after a couple doubles. The bullpen continues to struggle prior to Munoz who is locked in as the closer. I probably wouldn't roster Bazardo at this point but I would consider Speier.
ATH: Scott Blewett pitched a scoreless 4th and 5th inning and picked up a win. Chris Roycroft had the 6th with a 5-3 lead and allowed the first two on. He would give up a run but returned for the 7th where he got two quick outs and put two guys on. Luis Medina got the final out of the 7th and worked his way through the meat of the order in the 8th walking a couple. Roycroft and Medina would pick up holds. With the bottom of the order and couple LHBs coming up in the 9th they went with Hogan Harris who pitched a perfect inning and picked up the save. Like I have said I think we have a split with Harris and Alvarado and it appears to be matchup based.
LAD: Edgardo Henriquez got the final out of the 6th with the team down 2-1 and a couple outs in the inning. Evan Phillips pitched the 7th and allowed a couple to reach but no runs. Alex Vesia had the 8th and got an out in the 9th with a lefty leading off. Brock Stewart got the final two outs and would pick up the win after they rallied in the bottom of the inning. Tanner Scott is the closer here and they still really don't have right handed holds option.
STL: Cade Winquest pitched a perfect 6th with a 2-1 lead and Ryne Stanek pitched a perfect 7th. Both guys picked up holds. George Soriano walked the bases loaded but got the final out in the 8th ending it with a strikeout and picked up a hold. Riley O'Brien had the 9th with the score still 2-1 and got the first batter out. He would follow that up by allowing a single, walk, and double that scored two and ended the game. ROB was charged with a blown save and the loss. He has been a bit shaky lately and this doesn't help but the rest of the bullpen hasn't been strong either. He should remain as the closer for now.
