Bullpen Notes🗒️(9/1)
TBR: Another rough outing for Garrett Cleavinger as he walked three in the 7th. He ended up being charged with a run as Tyler Wells came in and got out of the inning. He would pick up a hold. Kelly pitched the 9th with the team up 6-2.
SDP: Bradgley Rodriguez got the final out of the 5th with the game tied at 2-2. He would return and pitch the 6th allowing a lead off single. Yuki Matsui pitched the 7th allowing a two out walk. Adrian Morejon pitched the 8th with the game still tied at 2-2. He would load the bases and allow two runs before David Morgan got the final out of the inning. Morejon was charged with the loss. He remains the 8th inning man and the best option for holds with Miller as the closer.
CIN: Luis Mey pitched the 7th allowing the first two on but kept the score at 2-2. Brock Burke had the 8th allowing a couple too reach but no runs. He would pick up the win after they took the lead in the bottom of the inning. Emilio Pagán pitched the 9th and allowed a solo dong with two outs that made the score 4-3. He's the closer here and continues to convert his chances.
SFG: They were getting mauled for most of the game until they rallied late. Cesar Perdomo who was called up today got the game to the 8th. Trent Harris pitched the 8th with the game tied at 12-12. He allowed a couple to reach but got out of the jam. Carson Seymour had the 9th with the game tied but allowed a run to score on an error. He was charged with a loss. Like I noted the other day he is probably next in line for the 9th. Tonight wasn't that bad of an outing but Smith is still the closer.
PIT: Yohan Ramirez got an out in the 5th and returned for the 6th. He would get an out and load the bases before giving up a run. Gregory Soto would come on and allow an inherited runner to score but picked up a hold. Camilo Doval pitched the 7th with an 11-7 lead and had no issues. Things got ugly in the 8th as Evan Sisk got an out before loading the bases on walks. Luke Weaver would come on and allow all three of Sisk's runners and two of his own to score. He would be charged with a blown save as the game was now tied at 12-12. Mason Montgomery had an entertaining 9th allowing three men to reach but getting a double play which kept anyone from scoring. He ended up picking up the win and he remains the closer. Soto might be a better option for holds than Weaver.
TOR: Spencer Miles started again which is annoying as he could have some value late. Joe Mantiply was activated and pitched in the 6th and the 7th with a 2-1 lead. He allowed a two run dong that put them down 4-1. Michael Lorenzen pitched the 8th and allowed another two run dong. The main guys didn't pitch but Mantiply could move into the late innings after a few outings.
WSN: Jared Simpson was called up and was perfect pitching the 5th, 6th, and 7th. He would end up picking up the win. With an 8-2 lead in the 8th they used Clayton Beeter who allowed three runs. Not sure why he was in but you hate to see that if he is rostered. They added a run and used Orlando Ribalta in the 9th so it wasn't a save situation. At this point you might as well just avoid everyone here. They really dont have a closer and it seems like anyone could see a save chance if one presents itself. I wouldn't even consider Beeter the favorite anymore.
SEA: They bullpen tried to blow it again but held on. Carlos Vargas gave up a couple runs in the 7th to make it 9-4. Jose Ferrer got out of the 7th and pitched the 8th allowing a couple singles but no runs. Hoby Milner who was just added gave up a two run dong in the 9th that made it 9-6 and with one out they had to use Andrés Muñoz who got the final two outs. It was not a save situation since no one was on base. They need to fix the bullpen to have any chance and time is running out.
CHC: With a 3-1 lead, two on, and one out in the 6th they turned to Daniel Palencia. He allowed an inherited run to score on a balk and another to score on a double. The next batter would hit a two run dong which were his runs. He was charged with a blown save and a loss. With a 5-4 lead in the 7th Ryan Zeferjahn allowed a run and Caleb Thielbar came on with two outs and allowed another Zef run. Thielbar would return for the 8th and allow a lead off walk before getting an out. Tyler Ferguson came in and allowed a two run dong to the first batter he faced. Really rough day here for pretty much everyone who pitched. Palencia is going to need at least another outing or two before we can talk about him in the 9th as this was a big spot and he choked. If you have Webb keep him because he is still the closer.
MIL: Antonio Senzatela got a groundball double play to get out of the 5th. He would return for the 6th getting an out and allowing a runner to reach. He would pick up the win. JoJo Romero came in to make his debut and he allowed the Senzatela run to score but picked up the hold. With a 7-4 lead in the 7th Abner Uribe pitched a perfect inning and picked up a hold. Aaron Ashby pitched the 8th with the game now 9-4 and DL Hall had the 9th. Uribe and Ashby are still the guys to roster for holds but Romero could move later in the game. It is a very strong bullpen with Megill in the 9th.
DET: Disaster of a 6th inning for Kyle Finnegan and the team. Finnegan would be charged with 5 runs and only recorded one out. There is no reason to roster him anymore and Holton is the better option if you are looking for holds.
MIN: Andrew Morris started the game pitching only one inning but allowing a run. He has gone from the 8th inning holds man to an afterthought and he shouldn't be rostered if you are chasing holds.
MIA: With a 3-0 lead Calvin Faucher pitched the 6th. He allowed a two out single and picked up a hold. Victor Vodnik pitched the 7th and 8th and had a 6-0 lead when he allowed a couple runs. Tyler Zuber had the 9th with a 6-2 lead and allowed a solo homer to make the score 6-3. All signs point to a committee here with Michael Petersen as the likely option for the next save chance. Josh Ekness might be ahead of Faucher with the usage today. It is getting tough to recommend anyone but I would avoid Faucher and add one of the other two.
TEX: Chase Silseth came on in the 6th with a couple guys on and one out. He would walk the bases loaded before striking out the next two batters. He would pick up a hold for his work. They opened up an 8-1 lead and Adam Macko gave up a run in the 7th. Newly added Trevor Williams had the 8th and allowed a run to make it 8-3. He would return for the 9th and allow a two run dong before getting an out and hitting a batter. Jacob Latz would come on and get the final two outs. He picked up the save. The bullpen is still pretty weak with just Latz and Junis as guys worth rostering. Silseth could be looked at as a deep option for holds but he is risky.
CHW: Bryan Hudson got the final out of the 6th and pitched the 7th. He ended up picking up a hold. With a 5-0 lead in the 8th they used Jordan Hicks who allowed a solo dong and a couple walks before getting out of the inning. Grant Taylor had the 9th even though it wasn't a save situation and was perfect. This is good news for Taylor as he only pitched one inning. He should be ready to go tomorrow. He remains the best option for saves but they refuse to use him in the role of everyday closer. This opens the door for Hudson and Newcomb to see chances in the 9th.
COL: With a 2-1 lead in the 5th Brennan Bernardino got the final out against a lefty with two on. Zach Agnos pitched the 6th and allowed a walk but picked up a hold. Jaden Hill had the 7th and he allowed a two out solo dong that tied the game at 2-2. He was charged with a blown save. Juan Mejia got though the 8th with a 4-2 lead despite putting a couple guys on. He would pick up a hold. With the same score Jordan Romano was perfect in the 9th picking up the save. He continues to be very good whenever he gets a save chance. He is certainly worth rostering at this point if you need saves.
LAA: With the team down 4-3 in the 7th Tayler Saucedo allowed a lead off single but nothing else. Samy Natera Jr. returned from the IL and pitched in the 8th. He struggled loading the bases and allowing a run before getting an out. A sac fly would score another run and Sammy Peralta would get the final out of the inning. Peralta returned for the 9th and struggled though the inning allowing another run. The main news here is that Natera is back. Joyce will remain the closer but he should return to the late innings and would be the best option for holds. Hopefully he was just working off the rust tonight.
NYY: Brent Headrick got a couple outs in the 6th with a runner on third and a one run lead. He would return and get a couple outs in the 7th before they brough in Paul Blackburn. He got out of the 7th and returned for the 8th allowing a lead off single but getting a double play. Both guys picked up holds and remain great options for holds on this team. With a 7-3 lead in the 9th they used newly acquired John Schreiber and the ground ball specialist got three flyouts to end the game.
ARI: With the team down 3-1 Taylor Clarke pitched the 6th. In the 7th with the same score they used Justin Martinez. He allowed a couple to reach but he did face the meat of the order. The scrubs finished off the game as PHI opened up a big lead. This team is staying a committee and while I don't like to see JMart in the 7th he was facing the best hitters. We know he won't pitch tomorrow or possible the next day which is what keeps limiting his value. Morillo and Garcia are in the mix for saves and Ginkel also sees action in big spots. JMart is the guy I would roster and I still think he leads the team in saves the rest of the season.
