LAB REPORTS
TBR: They had a no hitter going into the 9th. Casey Legumina had started and former bullpen man Ian Seymour had pitched until the 9th. They also had a 13-0 and they brought in Craig Kimbrel. Lets just say he put a quick end to the no hitter and the shutout. I'm not sure Kimbrel should be on a major league roster let alone a fantasy one.
PIT: Close game but they opened it up in the bottom of the 8th scoring two runs. Sisk and Ramirez struggled through the 6th and two outs in the 7th but didn't allow a run and picked up holds. Mason Montgomery got the final out of the 7th and pitched the 8th. He looked strong picking up a hold. Soto pitched the 9th with a 4 run lead and was perfect. He is locked in as the closer and Montgomery is a low end holds guy if you are looking.
ATH: They spent most of the game down and the bullpen was used accordingly. Sterner gave up a two run homer in the 6th so he is probably out of 9th inning consideration right now. They ended up taking a three run lead in the top of the 9th and turned to Mason Barnett who got the bottom three in the lineup out and picked up a save. With Alvarado's blow up last night we can assume he is out of the 9th for now. On the current roster that leaves Hogan Harris as the favorite for saves. Barnett could be considered at this point since they might need a RHP late. I dont think Barnett is gonna be some game changer but if you are desperate for saves he is an option.
SFG: The went into the 7th inning with a 6-2 lead and really the wheels in the entire bullpen fell off. Walker started the 7th and had his first bad outing since coming back to the majors. He put two guys on and got a couple outs but they pulled him for Erik Miller who walked the LHB he came in to face allowed a two run single to the next guy. Miller did end up picking up a hold. Dylan Smith pitched the 8th allowing a run that cut the lead to 6-5 while getting credited with a hold. They turned to the closer Caleb Kilian who had to face the top of the lineup. He let a guy on but got the next two out before allowing 4 runs. The whole bullpen is a mess here so I get the feeling they will stick with Kilian for the next chance. You really shouldn't name a guy closer and remove him after one blown save. Walker and Miller are next in line but I think it is still Kilian here.
DET: Kenley Jansen pitched the 9th with the team down 1-0. He allowed a leadoff single and that guy ended up scoring after stealing a base. It was a work outing for Kenley but Will Vest is right there if things go south in the 9th.
HOU: Hader and King had the night off here so that allowed some of the lower leverage guys to get some work with a lead. AJ Blubaugh got through the 7th and 8th without much of an issue. Enyel De Los Santos ended up back in the 9th like early in the season and he picked up a save despite allowing a solo homer. He wont be closing anytime soon and this was just a rogue save with Hader off.
WSN: One of the worst bullpen stretches in history continued tonight. Mitchell Parker was the 1st in for the 7th with a 5-2 lead. He had some control issues allowing a couple walks one that scored a runner and a couple hits before being pulled. They brought in Clayton Beeter since it was a big spot and he walked a runner in and allowed two more to score on a fielders choice. Both runners were Parkers. Parker did get a hold and Beeter was charged with a blown save. They turned to Varland for the 8th and 9th. No issue in the 8th despite allowing a runner to reach. The 9th got ugly though. He allowed a single and two run homer that put them down 7-5. He ended up allowing three more runs before the inning was over. The bullpen had been pretty heavily worked the last 5 games but that is not much of an excuse. As for the closer we know Beeter sees big spots like tonight in the 7th so really I feel like in addition to Beeter, Lord, Ribalta, and Poulin are in the mix. It is clearly a situation to avoid. A trade would be interesting but I'm not sure if they truly think they can compete this year.
TEX: Junis pitched a nice 8th and picked up a hold. Latz ran into some 9th inning trouble allowing a two run homer but he had a three run lead. He still picked up the save and is one of the best.
NYM: Another late inning loss though tonight it was just the ghost runner scoring. Brooks Raley allowed the run and took the loss. Weaver pitched the 8th and he has something like a 22 inning scoreless streak. Williams pitched the 9th with the game tied. They should be selling and both guys could be interesting options for teams in need.
CHC: Early in the game the bullpen had some issues. Roberts, Milner, and Maton all allowed runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th. Maton was charged with a blown save and none of these guys should be rostered. Thielbar pitched the 8th and it seems pretty clear that he is not going to see saves right now. That means Jacob Webb is the closer here and he pitched the 9th today picking up the win. Trent Thornton ended up with the save pitching the 10th and not allowing a run. Him and Rolison might get into the mix if Webb blows a save. If you need saves go out and add Webb but it is going to be risky.
BOS: The bullpen battled through the last 3 innings to hold onto the win. Greg Weissert and Danny Coulombe managed to get through the 7th allowing a run. Weissert has been good but not a guy I would roster. Both guys picked up holds. Garrett Whitlock pitched a perfect 8th and picked up a hold. He is a quality holds man. They tacked on a couple runs to make it 6-3 and brought on Chapman for the 9th. He loaded the bases with walks and weak singles but made a nice play on a little dribbler to get the final out of the game. Chapman had blown his last save so this was a big bounce back for him. He is a solid closer and should be on the move in a month.
