Bullpen Notes 6/18/26
BOS
They were down until the 8th when they tied it Justin Slaten got a clean inning of work in. In the 9th they turned to Aroldis Chapman with the game tied. He allowed an infield single, got two outs, and gave up a double that put them down a run. He got the final out and ended up taking the loss. Closers can struggle with the game tied and Chapman did. His job is not in jeopardy.
TOR
The main guys in the bullpen had the night off after most of them had pitched back to back nights. Tommy Nance got the final two outs of the 8th and picked up the win. That left the 9th to Mason Fluharty who had no issues throwing 5 pitches and getting the three, four, and five hitters out for the save. Just a situational save and no reason to add either guy as the are generally mid leverage pitchers.
CLE
Shaky night for the bullpen as they used 4 guys to get the final 9 outs. Herrin walked a couple but got two outs in the 7th picking up a hold. Holderman got the last out of the inning also picking up a hold. Gattis let a couple guys on but mixed in a couple strikeouts in the 8th to pick up a hold. Smith came on for the final 4 outs and while he walked a guy to load the bases in the 8th he had minimal difficulty getting though the 9th. Four guys to get 9 outs is a lot and every pitcher walked a batter. Still a strong bullpen for holds and they have a dominant closer.
MIL
They didn't make it to the main guys with the lead. Joel Kuhnel allowed a homer that tied it in the 6th and was charged with a blown save. Grant Anderson also allowed a solo homer in the 7th and another run and ended being charged with a loss. Neither guy is worth rostering in normal leagues.
MIN
This was a blowout but like normal Justin Lawrence allowed a couple runs. It is shocking that he hasnt been let go yet. They were forced to use Rogers, Morris and Orze for the 7th and 8th. They opened the game up against the TEX bullpen and Laweryson pitched the 9th allowing a run. Gomez might finally be the closer.
SEA
The starter pitched into the 8th inning before allowing a leadoff single and walk and getting pulled for Eduard Bazardo. Bazardo got the next three out without allowing a hit or a run. They took a 3-0 into the 9th and brought on Andrés Muñoz. He walked two batters in the inning including the leadoff man but got the three outs needed to pick up the save. That is now back to back saves but he has been far from dominant. He is the closer here.
PHI
They were tied going into the 7th when they brought in José Alvarado. He struggled allowing a single to start, getting two outs but walking a guy, giving up a single, and a triple. In the end he allowed three runs and they were now down 6-3. Alvarado was on to face Soto and he did get him out. Kerkering and Alvarado are both still quality holds guys though Kerkering probably has slightly more value.
NYM
Pretty good night here. Huascar Brazoban got a win getting through the 6th and getting an out in the 7th before getting pulled for Minter who got the last two outs and picked up a save. Weaver had a perfect 8th striking out three and getting a hold. Williams was on for the 9th with a three run lead and he did allow a run but was able to pick up the save. Williams remains somewhat erratic in the 9th but while his ERA is high he has been converting his saves. Weaver is the 8th inning guy but Raley and Minter see their fair share of holds as well.
CWS
Bryan Hudson opened again getting the 1st five outs. They used the starter the rest of the game. Hudson has been good all year and I am reluctant to remove him from the closer committee because he is the best LHP they have. They also have a lot of LHP in the bullpen so I am not sure why they dont open with someone else. I wouldn't be dying to roster Hudson as I think Taylor and Domínguez ae better options in the 9th inning.
NYY
Rough night for the bullpen. Cruz got out of the 7th and started the 8th allowing a double before getting the hook for Tim Hill. He hit two batters to load the bases and got an out before they pulled him for Doval. Doval allowed a grand slam that put the Yankees down 5-1. Cruz was charged with the loss since the game was tied and his runner was the 1st to score. Doval got out of the 8th and pitched the 9th. Cruz is still the only guy besides the Bednar that I would want to roster in this bullpen.
ATH
They were up by five when they turned to the bullpen for the 8th. Mason Barnett fought his way through it allowing a couple runners. Hogan Harris pitched the 9th also allowing a couple runners but striking out three. His inning was less stressful as the 2nd guy to get on did it with two outs. Barnett might be worth looking at for holds if you are desperate. They clearly like him more later in games than they did two weeks ago. Harris and Alvarado are the two closers and both are worth rostering.
