Bullpen Notes 6/11/26

ARI

Workday in the 8th for Sewald. He hadn't pitched in over a week. Garcia also got an inning in to get the foul taste of his last outing out of his mouth.

MIA

Great bullpen day here. Michael Petersen in the 6th, Anthony Bender in the 7th, Calvin Faucher in the 8th, and Pete Fairbanks in the 9th. Three holds and a save. Bender was the only guy to allow a hit. He walked a guy and Petersen hit a batter. I still like Petersen as a holds option though Bender has a chance to push him for his 8th inning spot. I wouldn't worry about todays 6th inning appearance. He faced the top of the order. Fairbanks has now had back to back strong appearances and is locked in as the closer.

NYM

They used all the late inning guys. Minter was the 1st one in pitching in the 5th and 6th. Raley and Weaver flowed with holds in the 7th and 8th. Williams in the 9th picked up a save. The back three have been used like this all year when they win. I do think Minter has a chance to get some holds though right now he isn't a top option. I wouldn't be surprised if he overtook Raley in a month or so. All these guys could get moved at the deadline. Williams is the closer and his job is safe.

STL

JoJo Romero struggled again allowing a homer in the 7th that ended up earning him the loss. He has been similar to ROB in since April. They both have struggled at times but maintained their roles. Soriano is pushing Romero for the 8th. Gordon Graceffo has pretty good number but he hasn't pitched in big spots. If they decide to move some of the main high leverage guys Graceffo would have a chance to take over. For now Romero is still an above average holds option and ROB is the closer.

TEX

Odd stat line here that saw Latz pickup the win. I for one am very annoyed as it should have been a save. They had a 4-2 lead in the 6th and both Robby Ahlstrom and Cole Winn pitched with Winn picking up a hold somehow. If the starter doesn't go 5 the official scorer can give the win to the pitcher he feels had the most important effort in the bullpen and it was Latz pitching the 8th and 9th. Like normal he was great picking up three strikeouts. He is the closer here. If Winn is healthy again he should have a chance for holds though Junis is still the 8th inning guy.

PIT

They were down again today but I did get a couple questions about the bullpen. Evan Sisk has been great but he has two issues. One is that he has mainly pitched in low leverage spots. Today he was in with the team down 1 and gave up a couple runs. It was a relatively high leverage spot for him. Two is that Soto and Montgomery are also LHP. He isn't surpassing either of them so that leaves the 6th as his main inning. If he was a RHP I would be higher on him since the bullpen needs a good one late. Dennis Santana did pitch a scoreless inning today but he is not back in the circle of trust.

LAD

Klein pitched pretty early and not particularly well if anyone is interested in him. At this point Vesia is the old school version of a LHP specialist. He faced one LHB batter got a hold and was out of the game since the inning ended. Dreyer pitched the 7th and picked up the win. Scorers decision I guess. Edgardo Henriquez pitched the 8th and struggled. He can throw hard but really hasn't had much success when they try and use him in bigger spots. He ended up giving up two runs and Scott got out of the 8th and pitched the 9th against the middle of the lineup to pick up the save. Scott should see most of the save chances and they are still trying to find a late inning RHP for the 7th and 8th. Hurt likely keeps his role there for now.

BAL

Tyler Wells got the win pitching in the 5th, 6th, and 7th. They used Rico Garcia in the 8th against the lower part of the lineup. SEA had a ton of LHB and Garcia did face some of them. Pretty odd usage but he did give up a couple singles and Wolfram came in to get out of the inning. Andrew Kittredge got through the 9th on 6 pitches four of which were put into play which is pretty impressive. Wells has been good since being recalled and Kittredge has been better since that 8 run disaster. Helsley is on a rehab assignment so he will return to the closers role likely by the beginning of next week. At that point Helsley and Garcia are the two best guys to roster for saves and holds.
