Bullpen Notes🗒️(6/29)

CWS: Grant Taylor pitched the 7th and 8th with the game tied and the team up 4-2. He pitched well and ended up with a win. They opened the game up in the top of the 9th but they did have Bryon Hudson up when the game was 4-2 (Thanks @JeffAgrest). They did sit him down for Brandon Eisert when the game got out of hand. BAL had two LHB coming up. I think Hudson has the best chance for saves here and it does sound like Domínguez is out for now. I suppose Hicks could find his way into the 9th but we all know how risky he can be. Taylor is just a very good bulk guy.

Grant Taylor LFX SV+HD Rank: 19th

BAL: Pretty rough meltdown for the bullpen in the 8th and 9th. Grant Wolfram gave up a couple in the 8th one that he was on the mound for and one that Rico Garcia let in. In the 9th Yennier Cano was charged with 4 runs (2 unearned). He allowed two right away and got pulled and the other guy allowed two on an error. The bullpen and team hasn't pitched well. I like Wells for holds here. Keegan Akin hit the IL so they are down another guy.

Yennier Cano LFX SV+HD Rank: 35th

PIT: Gregory Soto pitched in the 8th. It wasn't against the top of the order so they were clearly trying to protect him since PHI has two big LHB. They did have an 8-5 lead and he ended up allowing a homer and giving up two runs. If they pull him from the 9th that opens the door for Santana or Montgomery. I really don't think either is the answer here as both have struggled. My choice would be Santana but once again he has not been good all year.

Gregory Soto LFX SV+HD Rank: 25th

CLE: Erik Sabrowski struggled though a 9th inning with the team down 4-3. Three hits and walk allowed two runs to score though one was unearned. I'm still worried about him as he hasn't returned to his pre-injury form.

Erik Sabrowski LFX SV+HD Rank: 32nd

TEX: Latz was back in the 8th and 9th. It was a one run game when he started but they opened it up to three in the 9th. He just had a couple days rest. Junis allowed a run in the 7th. Both guys are good options for holds and saves.

Jacob Latz LFX SV+HD Rank: 7th

TOR: Mason Fluharty picked up a hold in the 7th getting two outs. Tyler Rogers had the 8th and picked up a hold. Louis Varland picked up a save and he actually allowed a couple guys to reach. They had a mound visit with two on and one out and he struck out the next two batters. Varland has come back to earth a little but he is still one of the best in the game. Rogers is solid in the 8th if you are looking for holds.

Louis Varland LFX SV+HD Rank: 5th

BOS: They were down Chapman and Slaten tonight but the bullpen got the job done. Danny Coulombe pitched the 7th having no issues and picking up a hold. Tyron Guerrero got his second 8th inning in as many days and he looked good picking up a hold. He is a deep sleeper if they end up selling the top guys. Garrett Whitlock came on for the 9th and he picked up the save. He allowed a hit but with a three run lead it was a fairly easy one. Whitlock would be next in line for the 9th if Chapman is traded and he stays. For now he is a solid 8th inning option.

Garrett Whitlock LFX SV+HD Rank: 21st

WSN: They made a couple moves in the bullpen placing Dicky Love and Mitchell Parker on the IL. Beeter, Poulin, and Ribalta should be the main options for saves but Lord and maybe Lawrence could see a chance. I wouldn't trust anyone.

Any Washington Reliever LFX SV+HD Rank: ERROR 404 - Not Found

CIN: Normal ugly bullpen day here. Petty started the 6th with a 3-0 lead. He allowed a double, walk, single that scored a run, and a walk wild pitch that scored a run. He did get out of the inning with a 3-2 lead. They brought him back for the 7th and he allowed a game tying homer while getting two outs. Sam Moll came in and got out of the 7th but allowed a hit in the 8th while getting two outs. He got pulled for Antone who allowed a two run homer that put them down 5-3 going into the 9th. Petty was charged with a blown save and Moll took the loss. Pagan is set to be activated tomorrow and it sounds like he will pitch in the 9th right out of the gate. They need him to be good right away.

Emilio Pagan LFX SV+HD Rank: Will Update After Activation Tomorrow

MIL: They were down when Chad Patrick came in and got them to the 8th. Aaron Ashby pitched the 8th allowing a hit but he ended up picking up his 11th win. Trevor Megill picked up the save with a perfect 9th and he is locked in as the closer. He is a guy who has pitched well so lets hope I don't jinx him.

Trevor Megill LFX SV+HD Rank: 11th

CHC: The game was tied for all of the bullpen innings. They had used pretty much everyone yesterday so I wouldn't look to much into the usage today. Thielbar got an out in the 8th and Thornton picked up the win pitching the 9th. Thielbar struggled and I would say at this point he is a low end holds option. Thornton has worked his way later into the game but I still think Jacob Webb is the closer here.

Caleb Thielbar LFX SV+HD Rank: 92nd

SDP: They activated Bradgley Rodriguez and he pitched in the 6th today. A couple guys got on and Morejon came in to get the final out and pitch the 7th. Jason Adam breezed though the 8th and they brought him back for the 9th. He allowed two singles to start the inning and got pulled for Mason Miller. The game was tied for all of these guys. Miller allowed a single that loaded the bases before getting a double play with a guy being thrown out at home. The next batter hit a single that scored the game ending run. Adam took the loss since it was his run that scored. I'm not worried about any of the main guys in the bullpen.

Jason Adam LFX SV+HD Rank: 38th

MIN: Travis Adams was the first man in and pitched the 8th. He did walk the leadoff guy but got a double play. Adams started the 9th and got an out, walked a batter, got another out, and allowed a two run homer. That made it a 5-3 game and brought in Yoendrys Gomez. He allowed a homer to make it 5-4 but got the final out to pickup the save. Gomez is the best option at closer but they just don't want to have a closer. Banda hit the IL so that takes one guy out of the mix.

Yoendrys Gomez LFX SV+HD Rank: 34th

MIA: High scoring battle as expected. Michael Petersen allowed a solo homer in the 7th after pitching the 6th. He picked up a hold. They extended the lead and used Faucher in the 8th. With a four run lead in the 9th they turned to Pete Fairbanks and he allowed a run before getting the last two outs. I mentioned earlier it might be a scary week for Fairbanks and all the MIA bullpen guys in these hitters parks.

Pete Fairbanks LFX SV+HD Rank: 27th

COL: Vodnik was the first man in. He allowed a three run homer to the first batter he faced in the 5th putting them down 6-5. He was charged with a loss. They turned to Senzatela in the 7th with the team still down 6-5 and he allowed four runs. After that Agnos got the final 7 outs. Senzatela is probably worth dropping at this point as he has moved into a true bulk role. Jimmy Herget seems to be the closer so add him if you want a high risk closer.

Any Rockies Reliever LFX SV+HD Rank: Just Keep Reading

ARI: They got dangerously close to blowing this one even though they only needed two innings from the bullpen. They used Ginkel with the score 5-1 in the 8th. He put a couple on and allowed a run before being pulled for Brandyn Garcia who got the LHB Devers out to end the inning. Garcia picked up the hold. In the 9th with a 5-2 lead Paul Sewald struggled. He allowed a leadoff homer and a single before getting an out and allowing another single that scored a run. With the score 5-4 he was able to get two pop outs and end the game. Sewald hasn't recorded a save in awhile so his limited action could be hurting him. He is also pretty old but he is still the closer here.

Paul Sewald LFX SV+HD Rank: 16th
