Dustin May Dominates the Padres on Monday, Priority Add off the Waiver-Wire

St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Dustin May threw a complete game one-hitter on Monday against the San Diego Padres, while striking out nine and walking one. May generated an impressive 15 whiffs, six of which came on his sweeper, all while generating whiffs on five different pitches. He also generated an elite 35% CSW rate.

On the season, May now owns an impressive 3.75 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 75 strikeouts in 81 2/3 innings pitched. While is 9.6% SwStr percentage isn't elite, he's been working deep into games and has seen his ERA dip month after month (5.28 in March and April, 3.86 in May, and 2.31 in June). His average fastball velocity has been significantly improved from his 2025 season (94.8 mph) to the 2026 season (96.8 mph), and he's demonstrated good control (6.6 percent walk rate) with a solid ground ball rate (45.5 percent). Additionally, all of his ERA estimators support his surface stats (3.66 xERA, 3.88 SIERA, and 3.84 FIP).

All this to say, May is a must-roster player for fantasy managers in 12-team formats or larger, and lines up for his next start in another good matchup on Sunday at the Kansas City Royals.
