LAB REPORTS
Bullpen Notes🗒️(8/17)
CIN: They were down 2-1 in game one and used Mey, Johnson, and Moll to get through the final four innings. They didn't allow a run but they didn't rally. In game two with the game tied at 4-4 in the 7th Brock Burke got the final out. He returned for the 8th and allowed a the lead off guy to reach and after a couple outs and a walk that guy would score on a single. Zach McCambley pitched a scoreless 9th and they tied it in the bottom of the inning. In the 10th Emilio Pagán kept the ghost runner from scoring and he would end up picking up the win. Pagan is really the only guy worth rosetering here and you could consider Santillan when he returns for holds.
STL: Great game for the bullpen in game one. Luis Gastelum pitched the 5th with a 2-1 lead and picked up a win. Gordon Graceffo and George Soriano pitched a perfect 6th and 7th and both guys picked up holds. Ryne Stanek pitched the 8th and allowed a two out double but picked up the hold. Riley O'Brien struck out the side in the 9th and picked up the save protecting the 2-1 lead. This was the ideal setup for the bullpen. In game two Peter Strzelecki pitched in the 7th and had no issue. They took the lead and he returned for the 8th and 9th. With a 2-1 lead he got two outs and allowed a game tying homer. He wasn't charged with a blown save since the outing started with the game tied. Justin Bruihl gave up a lead off single that ended the game to the first batter in the 10th. He was charged with the loss. Stanek is the best option for holds until Soriano gets it together and ROB is the closer.
BAL: Cam Sanders pitched a couple solid innings with a 6-4 lead in the 5th and 6th. Yennier Cano was brought in for the 7th and faced four batters without getting an out. One run would score while he was in and two more came across when Josh Walker gave up a single after coming in. Cano was charged with a loss and Walker picked up a blown save. Rico Garcia pitched the 8th. Cano continues to be downright awful in pressure spots so he is probably going to find himself out of the mix for the 9th. I would roster Kittredge for saves and Garcia will likely find his way into the mix somehow. He is back to being a holds option.
TBR: Casey Legumina allowed a couple inherited runners to score in the 4th while getting two outs. With a 4-3 lead in the 5th Tyler Wells came in and allowed two dongs and three runs. He was charged with a blown save. Kevin Kelly pitched the 6th without much issue. Cam Booser allowed a double in the 7th and returned for the 8th with a 7-6 lead. He would get an out and allow two on before they went with Bryan Baker. Baker got two outs in the 8th and allowed a two out single in the 9th to pick up the save. They need some better outings from Wells with Cleavinger struggling but Baker is still a stud in the 9th. I don't recall him getting more than three outs like tonight though.
PHI: With a 4-1 lead Jonathan Bowlan struggled through a 7th inning allowing a couple runs. He did pick up a hold and it was against the top of the lineup. Brooks Raley started the 8th and got a couple outs but allowed a homer that made it 5-4. Orion Kerkering got the final out of the inning and both guys picked a hold. With a 6-4 lead in the 9th they went with Jhoan Duran who allowed a lead off single and that guy would come around to score but that was the only run. He picked up the save. These are the four guys who should be pitching in the 7th, 8th, and 9th but outside of Duran they all seem to struggle.
PIT: They never got a lead and Mattson and Ramirez allowed four runs in three innings. After rallying to get the game to 8-5 Yates pitched the 7th and Soto struggled in the 8th but didn't allow a run. Doval had the 9th and didn't have any issue. Were two weeks from the deadline and still haven't seen them with lead in the game.
DET: Kyle Finnegan came on in the 6th a with a guy on second and allowed a single that score him. He would get the final out of the inning and the score was now 8-5. Finnegan came back for the 7th and put two on base while getting an out. Drew Sommers got the final two outs of the 7th and pitched a perfect 8th picking up a hold. Kenley Jansen was perfect in the 9th striking out two and picking up the save. Kenley is the closer and Holton still has the most value for holds.
NYM: With a 2-1 lead they turned to Jonathan Pintaro for the 7th. He allowed a lead off single but got a double play and returned for the 8th getting one out. Nate Lavender got the final two outs of the inning and both guys picked up holds. Daniel Duarte had the 9th tonight with Senga having pitched in two of three. He was perfect and picked up the save. Senga is still the closer here but as I have been saying Duarte is a nice holds option and he will cover the 9th when Senga is unavailable.
KCR: With a 6-4 lead the went with Connor Thomas in the 6th and he allowed a lead off single but got a double play to get out of the inning. John Schreiber was perfect in the 7th. Nate Pearson pitched the 8th and let two on with two outs but got out of the inning. All three guys picked up holds. They tacked on a couple runs in the 8th and with a 9-4 score Lucas Erceg returned to the 9th. He faced three guys and all of them reached. Pretty typical outing for Erceg. Steven Cruz pitched the 9th and got the first batter he faced to hit into a double play that scored an Erceg run. Cruz would get out of the inning and pick up the save. At this point Cruz appears to have taken over the 9th again. I would recommend adding him and Pearson is the only option to consider for holds.
MIN: Taylor Rogers got two outs to end the 5th with a guy on first and a 4-2 lead. Travis Adams pitched a perfect 6th and 7th and was credited with the win. After Morris' struggle last night they went with Jeff Hoffman in the 8th. He put a couple guys on but got out of the inning and picked up a hold. Yoendrys Gomez had the 9th with a 4-2 lead and he allowed a lead off walk but got the next three batters to pick up the save. Gomez doesn't make it easy on himself but he continues to convert. I don't see much of a shot that Jeff Hoffman who struggles just as much with allowing runners will take his job. Morris is still the 8th inning man but keep an eye on his next outing.
CWS: Tyler Schweitzer got the final out of the 5th, allowed a couple to reach in the 6th, and got one out in the 7th while letting a guy reach second. They were down 4-3 for his entire appearance. Trevor Richards got the final two outs of the 7th and two in the 8th before leaving with a runner on second. When he left they had a 5-4 lead. Jordan Hicks got the final out of the 8th and returned for the 9th. He ended up walking a couple and allowing the game tying single so he was charged with the blown save. Hagen Smith pitched in the bottom of the 10th and allowed PCA, the first batter he faced to hit a homer that ended the game. Taylor and Newcomb were unavailable after pitching over the weekend and yesterday. Hicks has struggled in the 9th traditionally and they had Braz up as well at one point. This should help Taylor since he really should be the closer but like it has all year I would expect it to remain a committee.
CHC: Ryan Rolison got a couple outs in the 7th with a 4-3 lead and picked up a hold. Ryan Zeferjahn got the final out of the 7th and returned for the 8th where he allowed a lead off walk and a one out two run dong that put them down 5-4. He was charged with a blown save. David Peterson got the next four outs and the game went into the 10th. Jacob Webb was on for the 10th and he did walk a couple batters but didn't allow a run. He would pick up the win. Palencia was moved to the 60 Day IL so he is going to spend another week in the minors at least. Webb is the closer here and Zef is risky but he is the 8th inning man.
LAD: With an 11-2 lead in the 9th they went with Edwin Díaz. He struggled and allowed three runs. They say they are leaving him in the 9th but at this point it is getting hard to understand why. Scott is next up and we know pretty much how the bullpen will look with Diaz outside the 9th.
