Bullpen Notes🗒️(7/1)

CWS: They turned to Bryan Hudson in the 5th with a couple runners on and it didn't go well. He faced three batters giving up two hits and a sac fly before being pulled. He ended up charged with one run. At this point if they aren't using Domínguez in the 9th and Taylor and Newcomb are bulk guys who knows who will close. Hicks also pitched today. They might be turning in to the Nationals. We need a close game or two to see what they do. Taylor will be involved but he tends to pitch before the 9th.

TEX: Cole Winn pitched in the 6th and 7th and allowed runs in the 7th. They were down two at the time but it is always tough to see a guy pitching in his second inning. Winn should be dropped everywhere but maybe the deepest leagues.

CLE: It was close for a little so they used a couple of the big names. Colin Holderman gave up a run in the 6th and he has been good but they have better options. Gaddis and Herrin combined to get through the 7th and both picked up holds. Gaddis got an out and gave up a couple hits. Erik Sabrowski gave up a solo homer in the 8th with the game getting out of hand. Festa pitched the 9th as they didn't need to use Smith. Sabrowski is still not back to form and Gaddis is still the pitching late so he is the guy to roster for saves.

DET: Drew Sommers picked up a hold getting the final two outs of the 7th. That is when things got interesting as they brought in Drew Anderson with a 2-0 lead. He allowed the first two guys to reach but got the next three batters out. They brought Anderson back out for the 9th for whatever reason and he blew the save. He allowed a one out homer and a base hit. The runner stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch. Keider Montero pitched the 10th and 11th and didn't allow a run in either inning picking up the win. No idea why they used Anderson for the 9th as they should have had Finnegan and Kenley available. Will Vest was put on the IL prior to the game. Still feels like Kenley should be the closer but they have gone to this weird two inning appearance for guys and it has not gone well.

WSN: Brad Lord started which isn't ideal but he really is more of a bulk guy than a relieable bullpen piece. New comers Riley Cornelio and Carson Palmquist pitched the 8th and 9th with the game a blowout and Cornelio gave up a couple runs. Beeter, Poulin, and Ribalta make up the main group of closers here but good luck guessing who will close on any given night.

CHC: They won in a mauling but Jordan Wicks picked up another save. He pitched the final three innings. This save was a bulk appearance and his other one was just a 10th inning last guy left in the bullpen save. No need to add him.

PIT: They were down and turned to Cam Sanders and Yohan Ramirez to get through the rest of the 5th, 6th and 7th. Both guys pitched well. They were down 8-6 in the 8th and brought in Dennis Santana who allowed a two run homer. You can't trust anyone in the bullpen right now and Mason Montgomery might have the best chance to pick up a save. Soto and Santana have been bad and Sisk has been more of a low leverage guy. I would note that Montgomery hasn't exactly lit it up either so it is a situation to avoid.

PHI: They were up for most of the game but with an 8-6 lead in the 7th and a guy on they turned to Orion Kerkering. He got the last two outs and pitched the 8th without issue and they credited him with the win. Duran pitched the 9th after they extended the lead to 10-6. Kerkering is going to be climbing up the holds list as he has taken over the 8th inning.

ATL: We got another preview of the bullpen in a close game with Suarez out. They were up 2-1 when the bullpen was activated. Dylan Dodd had the 6th against the top of the lineup and picked up a hold. Didier Fuentes saw the 7th inning picking up a hold. Dylan Lee pitched the 8th and had a hold. Nine batters up and nine outs for the those guys all with a 2-1 lead. Raisel Iglesias pitched the 9th after they took a 5-1 lead and turned it into a non-save. Lee has the most value as he has moved into the 8th and Fuentes does have some value as he has moved into Lee's role in the 7th.

TBR: They used Cole Sulser in the 7th and he picked up a hold. They took a 4-0 lead going into the 8th and brought in Garrett Cleavinger who got two outs and allowed two base runners. Kevin Kelly got the final out of the 8th and pitched the 9th picking up a save. He got around a leadoff single but since they had a four run lead and he got four outs he qualified for the save. Baker is the closer and Kelly and Cleavinger are the two guys to roster for holds.

CIN: The normal issues arouse in the bullpen. Antone pitched the 6th with the game tied 2-2 and allowed a leadoff walk before getting through the inning. Burke came on for the 7th and got two quick outs but allowed a double, triple, and threw a wild pitch to put them down 4-2. He walked the next batter and was pulled for Pierce Johnson. Burke was charged with the loss. Johnson got out of the 7th and got two outs in the 8th before they turned to Emilio Pagán for the final out. He got it but not after hitting a batter. This is the bullpen now with Pagán in the 9th and the rest left to try and get him the ball. I wouldn't roster anyone for holds right now.

MIL: Solid bullpen day for the big three. Aaron Ashby got the final out of the 6th, pitched the 7th, and allowed a guy to reach in the 8th. He picked up his league leading 12th win which is unheard of as a middle reliever. Uribe got a hold in the 8th and Megill pitched the 9th picking up a save. No real danger for Megill though he did allow a double. This is turning into a very good bullpen with Megill back in the 9th holding it down.

MIN: We got a look at the bullpen in a game without Banda. Cody Laweryson struggled through the 6th with a 7-1 lead allowing two runs that were unearned. Andrew Morris got out of the 6th and pitched the 7th picking up a hold. He got a big double play in the 7th. As expected with a 8-3 lead they turned to Taylor Rogers in the 8th. I believe he will replace Banda late in the game but he has been awful this year so dont look to add him. They used Yoendrys Gomez for whatever reason to get the final three outs in the 9th. Gomez in that spot is why this continues to be a committee.

ATH: They have been doing this weird back and forth with the bullpen. Medina and Harris pitched today and have now piggy backed with each other the last three outings. They generally pitch with the lead. Today they got through the final three innings without allowing a run. I would think Harris could go tomorrow if needed but it will be interesting to see if they turn back to the Barnett, Sterner, and Krook combo. This is making it very difficult to determine a closer but I would think Harris and Barnett are the main choices. This is still allowing Alvarado to stay in the mix as well.

SFG: They had a 6-0 lead until the 8th. Erik Miller pitched the 7th without issue. Nice to see him get some outs in a positive outing. Ryan Walker was on for the 8th and didn't record an out. Three singles and a double made it 6-3 and he was pulled for Dylan Smith who allowed the last Walker run to score but got the final three outs of the inning picking up a hold. Caleb Kilian pitched a strong 9th inning retiring the side with a couple strikeouts. Kilian is the closer and who is gonna take his job? No one at the moment so he does have a decent chance at staying in the role.
