FTO’S FBB Weekly Edge Report: July 20 – July 26

Welcome back to another edition of FTO's Fantasy Baseball Weekly Edge Report, where we break down the upcoming scoring period to help you gain an edge in season-long fantasy baseball.

The All-Star break is officially behind us, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Cardinals slugger Jordan Walker stole the spotlight by capturing the Home Run Derby crown, while the American League claimed bragging rights in the Midsummer Classic behind an MVP performance from Cody Bellinger. Now the attention shifts back to the second half, where fantasy championships are won through smart roster management and maximizing every lineup decision.

With the trade deadline rapidly approaching, this is one of the most important stretches of the fantasy baseball season. Roles can change overnight, prospects can earn opportunities, and contenders often separate themselves by making proactive waiver claims before the rest of their league catches on.

This week's report highlights the schedule advantages, league-wide weather trends, offenses to target, and waiver wire pickups that can help you gain an edge heading into the July 20–26 scoring period. Let's dive in.

🗺️ Schedule Breakdown

Ten teams are slated to play seven or more games this week. Most notably, we have a very rare eight-game week for the Tampa Bay Rays, who will play a doubleheader on Monday against the Boston Red Sox.

👉 Remember: These teams give you max volume. That may not sound significant, but it represents roughly a 17% increase in opportunity.

📈 Teams with 7+ Games

  • Arizona Diamondbacks
  • Atlanta Braves
  • Cleveland Guardians
  • Detroit Tigers
  • Kansas City Royals
  • Minnesota Twins
  • San Diego Padres
  • St. Louis Cardinals
  • Tampa Bay Rays (8 games)
  • Toronto Blue Jays

🌦️Weather Notes

Summer weather should continue to favor hitters this week, with warm temperatures expected across much of the country. However, fantasy managers should keep a close eye on the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, where smoke from the ongoing Canadian wildfires has created poor air quality and has already impacted professional sporting events over the past several days.

While there is no indication of widespread rainouts at the moment, changing weather patterns and shifting smoke conditions could affect game times or player comfort in outdoor stadiums. As always, monitor forecasts throughout the week for any postponements or delays, especially in East Coast parks, and be prepared to adjust your fantasy lineups accordingly.

🔥Top Stacks to Target

Here are a few teams that are in favorable spots for the upcoming week:

 Nationals (@ ATH, @ COL)

It is rare that our top stack is only playing six games that week, but the matchups are too good here. WSH will have an excellent road schedule featuring series at Sutter Health Park and Coors Field. Washington's young core should have plenty of opportunities to pile up runs, extra-base hits, and stolen bases over six games, making Nationals hitters strong targets in both weekly lineup leagues and DFS formats.

 Athletics (vs WSH, @ ARI)

The Athletics are another intriguing team to stack this week as they host the Nationals before traveling to Arizona to face the Diamondbacks. Washington's pitching staff has been one of the more favorable matchups for opposing offenses, giving Oakland an opportunity to put together a productive start to the week. While the trip to Arizona presents a tougher challenge, the Athletics' young lineup has shown enough power and speed to make several hitters worthwhile streaming options in deeper leagues

 Rockies (vs CIN, vs WSH)

The Rockies deserve strong consideration this week with all six games coming at Coors Field, where they host the Reds before welcoming the Nationals. Coors remains the best hitting environment in baseball, and a full week at altitude always raises the fantasy ceiling for Colorado's lineup. Add in a favorable series against Washington's pitching staff, and the Rockies become one of the more appealing stacks of the scoring period despite their season-long inconsistency.

🎯Waiver Wire Targets

We always want to be aggressive on the waiver wire. Here are a few players/situations that we are keeping a close eye on:

⚾Francisco Alvarez, 45% owned, after being removed from our blog for a week, Alvarez hit two homeruns in his first game after the break and finds his way right back in. We still believe that a healthy Alvarez is a top-12 fantasy catcher.

⚾ Royce Lewis, 58% owned, has been crushing the ball since his return from Triple-A and remains one of the highest-upside waiver targets available. Lewis offers elite power potential and the ability to impact all five fantasy categories.

⚾ Cole Carrigg, 69% owned, is another appealing waiver wire target, especially this week with the Rockies playing all six games at Coors Field. Carrigg also has the skill set to be a much bigger contributor on the basepaths than he has shown so far, making him an intriguing addition while Colorado enjoys a full week in the league's best hitting environment.

⚾ Nick Pivetta, 65% owned, is a strong stash candidate for fantasy managers looking ahead to the second half, as he has already begun throwing bullpen sessions and is targeting a return from injury in August. Pivetta is unlikely to repeat his strong 2025 season, but he has shown strikeout upside and swing-and-miss ability that can make him a valuable fantasy starter.

We post a longer list every Sunday on X (@FTO_picks).

🧠 Final Thoughts

As we move deeper into the second half of the season, small roster decisions can have an increasingly large impact on the standings. Prioritize players with seven-game schedules when lineup decisions are close, stay aggressive on the waiver wire, and continue monitoring injuries and pitching rotations throughout the week.

👉 Remember: Don't be afraid to churn the bottom of your roster if it means adding an extra game or a favorable matchup. Those incremental advantages often add up over the course of a long fantasy season.

Good luck in Week 17, and be sure to check back next week for another edition of the FBB Weekly Edge Report as we continue helping you find every edge possible.
