FTO’S FBB Weekly Edge Report: September 21 – September 27
Welcome back to another edition of our Fantasy Baseball Weekly Edge Report, where we break down everything you need to know for the upcoming week of season-long fantasy baseball.
We're officially entering the final week of the MLB regular season, which means every at-bat, stolen base, strikeout, and save can make a difference for fantasy managers still fighting for a championship. With every team playing six games this week, there isn't much of a schedule advantage based purely on volume, so we'll need to dig a little deeper into matchups, ballparks, and playing time.
As always, we'll cover the weekly schedule, weather outlook, teams to target, and waiver wire pickups to help you gain an edge.
🗺️ Schedule Breakdown
The final week of the regular season looks a little different than most weeks. All 30 teams are scheduled to play six games, meaning there isn't a single team with a seven-game schedule to give us a straightforward volume advantage.
👉 Remember: With every team playing six games, maximizing plate appearances will come down to lineup position, playing time, and avoiding players who could receive additional rest with the postseason approaching.
Instead of chasing teams simply because they have an extra game, this is the week to focus on favorable matchups and hitter-friendly environments.
🌦️Weather Notes
September weather is becoming an increasingly important factor as temperatures begin to cool across much of the country. While we won't have the consistently hot conditions we saw throughout the summer, there are still plenty of warm afternoons and evenings that can provide favorable hitting environments. Managers in weekly leagues should pay particular attention to games in traditionally hitter-friendly parks, especially when choosing between closely ranked bats.
The bigger concern this time of year is the transition toward cooler temperatures and the potential for rain across the Midwest and East Coast. Early forecasts already show some precipitation concerns around Baltimore and parts of the Northeast, while cooler conditions are becoming more common in northern markets. Managers should continue monitoring forecasts throughout the week, particularly if you're relying on fringe starters or players whose fantasy value depends heavily on a full slate of games.

🔥Top Stacks to Target
Here are a few teams that are in favorable spots for the upcoming week:
⚾ Diamondbacks (@ COL, @ SD)
The Diamondbacks immediately jump out because of their three-game series at Coors Field to begin the week. Arizona will face Colorado for three games from September 22-24 before traveling to San Diego, giving their everyday hitters a chance to take advantage of one of the best offensive environments in baseball. The Padres series is considerably less appealing, but the Coors Field exposure alone gives Arizona's top hitters plenty of upside for the final week.
⚾ Braves (vs CIN, @ MIA)
Atlanta gets three games against Cincinnati before finishing the season with three games in Miami. The Reds rotation presents some attractive opportunities early in the week, and Atlanta's lineup has enough power and depth to take advantage. With six consecutive games and a favorable opening series, the Braves are another team we're comfortable targeting in the final week.
⚾ Yankees (vs TB, vs BAL)
The Yankees will spend the entire week at home, which is especially appealing this late in the season. They'll face Tampa Bay for three games before finishing the regular season against Baltimore. Yankee Stadium remains one of the better environments for power, and six straight home games should provide plenty of opportunities for New York's core hitters to produce.
🎯Waiver Wire Targets
We always want to be aggressive on the waiver wire, especially with the fantasy season coming down to its final few days. Here are a few players and situations that we're keeping a close eye on:
⚾ Cam Smith, 10% owned, has a particularly appealing schedule to close out the season. The Astros play six games on the road, beginning with two games in Seattle before finishing with four games against the Athletics at hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park. Smith has already reached the 20-HR/10-SB mark this season and should have plenty of opportunities to contribute in multiple categories down the stretch.
⚾ Victor Mesa Jr., 42% owned, is another player worth checking for. Mesa has been one of the better offensive performers in September, posting a .383/.431/.681 line with a 210 wRC+ over his recent 51-plate-appearance sample. If he's still available in your league, his combination of power and speed gives him legitimate late-season upside.
⚾ Jonah Cox, 8% owned, is an intriguing option for managers chasing stolen bases. Cox has already shown the ability to contribute in that category while hitting .294 with 13 steals in limited action this season. The Giants also have six home games this week, opening with three against Minnesota before finishing the season against the Dodgers.
⚾ Alec Bohm, 52% owned, is another name worth checking, particularly if he was dropped during a cold stretch. Bohm has put together a strong recent stretch and has driven in 82 runs this season. Philadelphia will play all six games at home this week, with three against Milwaukee followed by three against Tampa Bay.
We post a longer list every Sunday on X (@FTO_picks).
🧠 Final Thoughts
We've finally reached the end of the fantasy baseball season. The final week is always one of the most important, and this year is no different. With every team playing six games, there isn't a major schedule advantage to exploit through volume alone, so focus on favorable matchups, playing time, ballparks, and category needs as you make those final roster decisions.
