Troy Melton is breaking out?
Troy Melton just completed 8 innings of 2-run ball, after going 7 IP last start, and 5.2 IP in his 2026 debut. That's averaging nearly 7 IP per start, after missing months due to injury. Tremendous efficiency. He has however, been getting that efficiency by pitching to contact.
Only 9 Strikeouts across those 3 starts is not going to cut it, althought he did have 5 of those today. He's going to have to improve his swing-and-miss if he's going to succeed long term in the rotation. But with a 1.74 ERA and 0.87 WHIP, we can have some level of patience while we wait for the K's to develop. I'm not expecting huge totals, but he is far better than a 3.9 K/9 guy.
He keeps rising up the LFX Pitchers list and it's easy to see why. Melton is on far too many waiver wires right now, and will keep trending up. If the strikeouts come, watch out.
