Bullpen Notes🗒️(7/7)
MIL: Game one was 4-3 going into the 8th. They used Aaron Ashby and he got two quick outs before allowing a couple singles and getting out of the inning. He ended up getting a hold. Abner Uribe came on for the 9th and allowed a one out walk but picked up the save. Megill had pitched back to back games so he wasn't available. Nothing changes in the bullpen. Nothing important happened in game two as it was a blowout.
STL: The bullpen choked away game one in the 7th inning. The game was tied at 3-3 and Ryne Stanek came on and allowed two on before being pulled with an injury. Romero came on and allowed a double that scored a run to make it 4-3. He got out of the inning after that. They got mauled in game two so nothing to discuss there. Nothing changes with the bullpen hierarchy and we wait to see how bad Stanek might be hurt.
CHC: Ryan Rolison pitched the 7th and got two outs while loading the bases. He got pulled for the guy I think is the closer Jacob Webb. Webb allowed a single that scored two and got the final out of the inning with the score 4-2 both runs were charged to Rolison. He picked up a hold. Tyler Ferguson pitched the 8th without issue and picked up a hold and they turned to Trent Thornton for the 9th. He had no issues picking up the save against the bottom of the order. I want to believe Webb is the closer here but it is possible that they use him as the fireman and pitch him in the big spots. That's two saves for Thornton so he can at least be considered if they become a committee. Webb is still the only guy I would roster.
PIT: Hopefully their fans will shut up about Hunter Stratton. He pitched the 9th of a blowout and gave up two runs. He's a minor leaguer.
TBR: The bullpen had a 6-3 lead when Kevin Kelly was brought in with one out in the 6th. He allowed a couple hits but got out of the inning. He started the 7th getting an out but allowing a couple hits and a run. Booser got out of the 7th and both guys picked up holds. Cleavinger pitched the 8th and despite allowing a leadoff single got out of the inning picking up a hold. They turned to Baker for the 9th and like normal he was solid. A two out single and a strikeout to end it. He picked up the save. The main guys in the bullpen are good but I'm not sure if they can survive having Booser and Kimbrel pitching in big spots.
SEA: They used Ferrer and Bazardo in the 6th and 7th while they were down 4-2 and both guys had perfect innings. After taking a 5-4 lead in the 8th they turned to Speier and he allowed a leadoff homer to a pinch hitter. He was charged with a blown save. Munoz pitched a perfect 9th with the game tied to send it to extra's. With limited options they turned to Michael Rucker who got an out but allowed a single that scored the ghost runner and ended the game. This is another team that could use some bullpen help if Brash doesn't return.
MIA: Michael Petersen was brought in for the 6th with the bases loaded and no outs. He was able to get out of the jam and didn't allow a run. John King pitched a perfect 7th and allowed a leadoff walk in the 8th but picked up a hold. He was pulled for Calvin Faucher who struggled though the rest of the inning and allowed King's run and two of his own to score. He got hit hard and was wild. Fairbanks pitched the 9th allowing just a single and sending it to the 10th. In the 10th Cade Gibson got three outs without allowing the ghost runner to score and he picked up the win. If you are looking for holds I would target Petersen over Faucher here. Petersen has been the better pitcher all year and Fairbanks remains the closer.
HOU: Lots on innings for the bullpen today and they pitched very well. Steven Okert, Enyel De Los Santos, Bryan King, and Bryan Abreu got the last out of the 4th and everything else until the 9th. King and De Los Santos picked up holds, Okert picked up a win, and Abreu was pitching with a 4 run lead. Every guy allowed one runner but no one got into much trouble. Freshly called up Alimber Santa allowed a homer and a base runner in the 9th while getting two outs but it turned it into a save situation and Josh Hader was brought on. Hader put two guys on to load the bases but got out of the jam picking up the save. This is a game they would have lost earlier in the year without Hader in the bullpen.
PHI: They had a 4-1 lead going into the 8th and brought in Orion Kerkering. He got two outs but also walked three guys to load the bases and they pulled him. Jonathan Bowlan got the final out of the inning without issue and both guys picked up holds. Jhoan Duran pitched the 9th allowing just a single while picking up the save. Kerkering could be in some trouble as Brad Keller is supposed to return tomorrow. Keller will likely take back over the 8th as he had pitched very well prior to going on the IL.
CWS: They were down in the 6th and turned to Seranthony Domínguez who struggled though the inning letting two guys on. Hicks also pitched in the 7th against his old team. Brandon Eisert got beat up in the 9th allowing four runs and Trevor Richards had to come in and finish off the game. Taylor and Newcomb remain the bulk closers and if they have a save opportunity Taylor should be ready tomorrow.
MIN: We got the normal BS from the manager in the 9th tonight. Andrew Morris pitched a perfect 8th picking up a hold. In the 9th with a 3-1 lead they turned to Taylor Rogers and his nearly 6 ERA. He was facing the top of the order in they did have two LHB coming up so this would be the time to use the LHP in a committee. Rogers got the first two out, allowed a walk, and they pulled him for Gomez. Gomez struck the final guy out and picked up the save. Honestly this is great usage for Gomez owners as he only had to get one out but one guy was on. They remain a committee though with Gomez as the best option and Rogers and Morris in the mix.
TEX: We got a look at how they would use the bullpen is a close game. Cole Winn pitched the 6th with the game tied. Chris Martin had the 7th and he allowed a leadoff single, stolen base, and another single that scored a run. He got out of it after that. Peyton Gray pitched the 8th after they tied it up and ended up picking up the win. Latz was up for the 9th but they opened it up and used Tyler Alexander. They will need a lot from Martin who is hopefully working off the rust and Winn who just looks bad if they are going to survive without Junis. Junis should be back at least but adding another piece would help as well.
LAA: Tyler Saucedo came on for the 7th and allowed the first batter he faced to homer and tie it. It was a pinch hitter but with yesterday off I would have expected one of their better guys. He was charged with a blown save. With the game tied at 3-3 Sam Bachman melted down in the 8th. He allowed a bunch of singles and a three run homer. When all was said and done he had given up five and gotten two outs. I think they would still use him to close in the right spot but Yates is probably leading the way right now. No one on this team has been seeing many save chances.
SDP: The bullpen got the call in the 6th with a 4-1 lead. Yuki Matsui was the first in and he allowed a couple singles while getting an out before being pulled for Jhony Brito. Brito who was called up today got a double play to end the 6th and pitched the 7th. Both of those guys picked up holds. Bradgley Rodriguez pitched the 8th as I assume they wanted to rest Morejon one more day. Rodriguez was perfect and picked up a hold. Mason Miller had the 9th and was perfect as well picking up a couple strikeouts. We know Miller isn't going anywhere in the 9th but Bradgley Rodriguez is a guy to keep an eye on as he has had a great season and with Adam and Estrada hurt should be in the mix for holds.
LAD: The bullpen blew a 3-1 lead in the 8th but a couple errors were what led to all the runs. Will Klein was started the inning allowing a walk, pop out, single, and than the error was made. They brough on Jack Dreyer who allowed two more Klein runs on a bunt that was thrown away. Klein was charged with a loss and three runs but picked up a hold. Dreyer was charged with a blown save. Evan Phillips returned and pitched the 9th. With the massive division lead they have they can afford to let things in the bullpen work out. Edgardo Henriquez and Alex Vesia seem like the best options for holds right now. Scott is the closer.
COL: They were down 3-1 when Juan Mejia pitched in the 7th. He allowed a hit and returned for the 8th with a 4-3 lead and had a perfect inning. He picked up a win. As expected with Herget pitching yesterday Jordan Romano got the save chance. It wasn't pretty as he allowed the first two on but he buckled down against the top of the order and got the next three out. He looks the same as he did for the Angels but he did convert this one. He is the closer here in my opinion but is very risky to roster. The Rockies have been playing well so he might see more chances than you would think. The question is can he continue to convert them?
