LAB REPORTS
Bullpen Notes🗒️(9/13)
LAA: Tayler Saucedo came in for the 6th with one on and one out. He would allow that inherited runner to score while getting the final two outs. He was charged with a blown save as that tied the game at 2-2. Saucedo and Murphy would get though the 7th. Murphy returned for the 8th and got an out while allowing four to reach and score. Sammy Peralta would get the final two outs of the inning and Murphy would be charged with four runs and pick up the loss. Joyce is the closer and Natera and Watson are the holds guys.
WSN: Riley Cornelio started the game and didn't allow a run in the first two innings. Jake Irvin would go the next five innings as the bulk man. Erik Tolman came on with the score tied in the 8th and a batter on. He allowed the inherited runner to score and one of his own that made it a 4-2 game. He would end up picking up a win. Jack Sinclair had the 9th with a 6-4 lead and allowed a lead off double that would come around to score. He did pick up the save. This team continues to use a committee and the last couple days have seen Tolman and Sinclair pick up saves so they are considered the leaders.
NYY: Brent Headrick pitched a perfect 7th with a 2-0 lead and picked up a hold. Paul Blackburn had the 8th and allowed a lead off single but picked up a hold. David Bednar had the 9th and he allowed a one out single and picked up the save. Headrick sees more holds but all three of these guys have value.
ATL: It was 2-2 in the 8th and they used Dylan Lee. He was facing the top of the lineup and got mauled. He would get two outs but allow four runs. Victor Mederos came in and faced five batters without getting an out. He was charged with three runs. Lee picked up the loss and this as a bit of a setback from his recent success. Fuentes is probably a better option for holds on this team.
PHI: Alex McFarlane pitched a scoreless 6th with a 2-1 lead and picked up a hold. José Alvarado had the 7th and allowed a run to blow the save. He would end up picking up the win. Freshly activated Tanner Banks pitched the 8th and 9th and allowed a couple runs. They continue to have trouble in the 7th and 8th and it seems like pretty much anyone they use blows the game but at least Duran is great in the 9th.
TOR: They had a 4-1 lead and Ricky Tiedemann and Braydon Fisher would get the three outs in the 6th with both picking up holds. Mason Fluharty pitched the 7th and allowed a one out single and Tyler Rogers did the same thing in the 8th. They both picked up holds. After taking an 8-1 lead they used Michael Lorenzen in the 9th. This is how the bullpen should set up most days except you would see Varland in the 9th if it was a save situation.
LAD: Alex Vesia pitched a perfect 7th with a 3-0 lead and picked up a hold. They went with Edgardo Henriquez in the 8th and he struggled allowing a couple runs to score while getting a couple outs. He would pick up a hold as well. Tanner Scott got the final out of the 8th and returned for the 9th with a 4-2 lead. He faced three batters and didn't get an out and the score was tied at 4-4 by the time they pulled him. Brock Stewart came in and allowed a two run dong that ended the game. Scott was charged with the loss and picked up a blown save. I still think Scott is the closer here but they continue to try and find answers prior to the 9th and could use a semi committee. Edwin got smoked again in triple AAA so don't worry about him late yet.
MIL: Antonio Senzatela came on in the 6th with a 2-0 lead, no outs, and a guy on. He allowed a single and a three run dong before getting an out. He was charged with two earned runs and a blown save. JoJo Romero got the next five outs with the team down 3-2. After tying it in the 7th they went with Abner Uribe in the 8th and he allowed a couple singles and a run. He would be charged with the loss. DL Hall pitched the 9th with the team down 4-3. No change in the bullpen as it was just a rough day for the guys prior to the 9th.
CIN: Brandon Williamson pitched in the bulk role and got the game to the 8th inning. He would end up picking up a win. Brock Burke allowed a lead off single in the 8th with a 4-3 lead and picked up the hold. With the same score Emilio Pagán pitched the 9th and he also allowed a lead off single but picked up the save. Burke and Pagán are the guys to roster if you are looking for holds and saves in this bullpen.
STL: With a 3-1 lead in the 7th they went with Gordon Graceffo. He was perfect and returned to pitch a perfect 8th as well. He picked up a hold. George Soriano had the 9th and started it with a single and walk. He would get a couple outs before allowing another walk and getting out of the inning. He picked up the save. It wasn't pretty so I question how risky an option he could be. ROB and Soriano are probably the closers right now but both are high risk. I favor ROB still.
CHC: Daniel Palencia pitched the 9th with the team down 4-3. He allowed a two out walk. It was decent outing in a somewhat important spot. I still think Webb is the closer here but Zef would be next up and Palencia after that.
PIT: Carmen Mlodzinski allowed an inherited runner to score in the 6th but got the final two outs. They had a 4-3 lead and he returned for the 7th. He would allow a two out walk but picked up the hold. Luke Weaver was perfect in the 8th and Mason Montgomery was perfect in the 9th. Imagine what this bullpen could have been if they had figured this out before mid August. It does look good for next year. Weaver is the 8th inning man and Monty is the closer.
KCR: With a 1-1 score in the 7th they went with Craig Kimbrel. He faced three batters getting one out and walking two. Connor Thomas came in and got the final two outs but allowed a single the scored a Kimbrel run. Kimmy would be charged with the loss. Nate Pearson pitched the 8th with the team down 2-1 and he allowed another two runs to score. It still shocks me to see Kimbrel pitching in high leverage spots and it fails more often than not. Cruz is the closer and Pearson is the main holds guy in the 8th.
BOS: Erik Miller started the 7th with a 1-0 lead. He walked a couple guys before getting an out. Garrett Whitlock came in and allowed a Miller run to score before getting the final two outs. Miller would get a hold and Whitlock got a blown save and a win. With a 2-1 lead in the 8th they went with Greg Weissert and he pitched a perfect inning picking up a hold. With a 4-1 lead they went with Aroldis Chapman in the 9th and he walked the first two before striking out the next three and picking up the save. Chapman and Whitlock are still the best two guys to roster for saves and holds.
SEA: Carlos Vargas pitched the 6th with a 6-2 lead and would return for the 7th. He faced two batters and they both reached and both would score. Gabe Speier came in and faced three batters getting one out. He would also be charged with a couple runs but did get a hold. Seranthony Domínguez came in and allowed a two RBI single and he was charged with a blown save. The game was now tied at 6-6. Domínguez would return and get an out in the 8th with Andrés Muñoz coming in and getting the final two. They had a 7-6 lead at the time. With the same 7-6 lead Muñoz started the 9th and allowed a single and two run dong. He was charged with a blown save and a loss. The bullpen troubles continue and while Muñoz is the closer it is tough to get five outs.
ATH: They were down and used Scott Blewett, Luis Medina, and Geoff Hartlieb to get to the 8th inning. With the score 6-6 in the 8th Hogan Harris came in and allowed a two out solo dong. With the same score in the 9th they went with Elvis Alvarado and he allowed a two out single. He would pick up a win when they rallied in the bottom of the inning. Harris and Alvarado appear to be in a timeshare for saves. I prefer Harris but they do use both of them.
TEX: With a 7-1 lead and a guy on in the 7th they turned to Tyler Alexander. He would allow a single and a three run dong before getting out of the inning. Robert Garcia had the 8th with a 7-4 lead and he allowed a lead off single but a double play helped him get out of the inning and pick up the hold. Jacob Latz had the 9th and he struggled. He allowed three doubles and two runs but was able to get out of the inning and pick up the save. Latz is the closer and Garcia has been pitching later in the game but I would still prefer Junis for holds.
SFG: They were down for the bullpen innings and used Matt Wilkinson in the 6th, 7th, and 8th. Tugboat didn't allow any runs. With the team down 6-4 in the 9th they went with Trent Harris who was perfect. Harris and Smith are competing for saves and it does seem like Harris is leading the duo. Both guys last appearances were just work outings.
SDP: The big three had all pitched back to back and all of them had the day off. That left them with the remaining guys in the bullpen and they got the job done. Hart, Morgan, Peralta, and Vasquez got the ball to the 9th. Morgan and Vasquez picked up holds and Peralta got the win. In the 9th they used Yuki Matsui with a 6-4 lead and he allowed a two out double but picked up the save. None of these guys have any real value and I wouldn't roster any of them. The big three are the guys you want.
