Bullpen Notes🗒️(9/11)

CHC: They won in another blowout but used Daniel Palencia in the 8th. It was 12-2 and he allowed a walk. Another outing with virtually no pressure. Clearly they are still working to get him into the form they want for the postseason so Webb is the guy to roster for saves.

DET: Jacob Waguespack pitched the 7th and 8th with a 5-1 lead. He allowed a one out single in the 8th. Brant Hurter had the bottom of the lineup in the 9th with a 6-1 lead. He allowed three singles, a run, and got two outs. That opened the door for Kenley Jansen to come in and get the final out for the save. Kenley is the only guy I would roster in this bullpen.

LAA: Luke Murphy and Jose Fermin pitched the 5th and 6th with the game tied and neither had any issue. Ryan Watson had the 7th after they took a 2-1 lead and he was perfect while picking up the hold. Samy Natera Jr. had the 8th and loaded the bases before getting a force out at the plate. He would allow a sac fly that tied it and a double that put them down 4-2. He did finish the inning but was charged with the blown save and loss. They had the game where they wanted it and the setup for the bullpen with Joyce waiting for the 9th. Joyce is the closer and Natera and Watson could switch if they feel like they need to take Natera out of the 8th.

WSN: Will Dion came in with a couple on in the 7th, no outs, and the team down 2-1. He got out of the inning without allowing another run. Clayton Beeter faced the 9, 1, and 2, in the 8th and had no issues. He would end up getting the win. With a 4-2 lead in the 9th they went with Erik Tolman. They pinch hit any lefties so it wasn't really a matchup thing. Tolman got a couple outs to start but then allowed a walk and a double that made it 4-3 before getting the final out. He picked up the save. Will Tolman be the guy to take over the 9th. I doubt it but at least he got the job done today. I wouldn't add him unless you have no other option. They sent Beeter to the minors after the game for some reason.

NYY: Paul Blackburn came on in the 7th with a 5-1 lead, one out, and one on. He struggled getting only one out and allowing a run. Brent Headrick came in and got the final out of the inning. Headrick returned for the 8th and got an out before loading the bases. They had David Bednar ready and he came in and allowed an inherited run to score but got the final two outs. Bednar came back for the 9th and allowed a solo dong but picked up the save. They used all the main guys and despite some struggles today they all are very good options for holds and saves.

BAL: Josh Walker allowed an inherited runner to score but he did get the final three outs of the 6th. He would return for the 7th and get an out. Yennier Cano came in and he got the final two outs. They were up 7-2 at the time. Andrew Kittredge pitched a scoreless inning in the 8th. Alex Hoppe started the 9th with the same 7-2 lead and got two outs before allowing a double, two run dong, and single. That opened the door for Rico Garcia to get the final out of the inning and he would pick up the save. That is two for two for Garcia recently though this wasn't a real 9th inning save. I do think he is in the mix for saves but I don't think he is the closer. Kitty is still in the mix as well.

KCR: They had a 3-2 lead in the 6th and went with Nolan Hoffman. He was perfect and Connor Thomas pitched a perfect 7th as well. Both guys picked up holds. Nate Pearson had the 8th and he allowed a one out double but picked up the hold. With the same 3-2 lead Steven Cruz had the 9th and he was perfect picking up the save. Cruz is the closer here and Pearson is the holds guy and at this point both could be rostered if you need help in those category's.

MIA: They were down 2-1 going into the 7th but things got worse from there. Victor Vodnik and Cade Gibson allowed four runs in the inning. Vodnik allowed three of them. They got Fairbanks back on Wednesday but he has yet to make an appearance since his return. He is the closer in the bullpen.

HOU: Miguel Ullola and Bryan King got the first seven outs of the game. They would use the bulk guy next and he got them all the way to the 9th. With a 1-1 score Bryan Abreu came in and got an out, allowed a double, and allowed a two run dong that ended it. He was charged with a loss. Abreu isn't losing his spot as the 8th inning guy after this outing though it isn't ideal. He remains the best option for holds in the bullpen.

TBR: Tyler Wells pitched the 8th with the score 1-1 against the top of the lineup. He was perfect. Bryan Baker had the 9th and he allowed a one out walk but had no other issues. He got the win and his velo was fine tonight. Baker is one save away from 40 and now it does appear that he is okay. He is the closer and Kelly and Wells have value for holds.

PHI: José Alvarado got a couple outs in the 7th with a 3-2 lead. Alex McFarlane pitched the 8th and he allowed a two out single. Both guys picked up holds. With Duran having pitched back to back nights they went with Jonathan Bowlan in the 9th. He quickly blew the save though an error by the center fielder didn't help. He was charged with a blown save. They took a 4-3 lead and went with Chase Shugart in the 10th. He allowed the ghost runner to score and was charged with a blown save. He would return for the 11th and get one batter out. Brooks Raley came on and got an out but then allowed a single and double that ended the game. Raley was charged with a blown save and a loss. The bullpen outside of Duran continues to struggle and at this point Alvarado and McFarlane appear to be the best options for the 8th.

ATL: Dylan Lee pitched the 8th with the team down 3-2. He would allow a walk but got a double play. He returned for the 9th and allowed a double while getting an out. Victor Mederos got the last two outs of the inning. Raisel Iglesias allowed the ghost runner to score in the 10th. Didier Fuentes allowed the ghost runner to score in the 11th but he would pick up the win. The bullpen remains the same with Iggy as the closer and Lee slightly ahead of Fuentes for holds.

CIN: Luis Mey had an impressive inning after getting an out to close out the 4th and he returned for the 5th. They were down 9-0 at the time and he gave up eight more runs. You rarely see a reliever take that kind of beating but they let him suffer. Burke and Pagan are the two guys to roster in this bullpen if you are looking for holds and saves.

MIN: A.J. Minter started the 7th with a 1-0 lead and allowed a single and two run dong to blow the save. He would get out of the inning and return to get an out in the 8th. Jeff Hoffman got the final two outs of the 8th. Yoendrys Gomez pitched the 9th with the game tied at 2-2. Gomez struggled and was charged with three runs while getting an out before getting pulled from the game. Kody Funderburk got the final two outs with the team now down 5-2. Not a great outing for Gomez but it wasn't a save situation so I wouldn't worry about his spot as the closer. Minter is still going to see holds though Hoffman is pitching more 8th innings these days.

CLE: Tim Herrin got the final two outs of the 6th. Erik Sabrowski hit a batter in the 7th but got two outs after with a 2-1 lead. He would pick up a hold. Hunter Gaddis came in and allowed the Sabrowski run to score on a single. He would return and pitch a perfect 8th. Gaddis picked up a blown save but also got a win. Cade Smith pitched the 9th with a 5-2 lead and he allowed a single but got a double play to end the game. He picked up the save. This is how the bullpen has been setting up and these three guys are the ones to roster for holds and saves.

STL: Gordon Graceffo loaded the bases in the 5th but got out of it and picked up the win. They would take a 6-2 lead and use Luis Gastelum in the 6th. He loaded the bases with one out but escaped the jam without allowing a run. Justin Bruihl pitched the 7th and returned for the 8th where he put the first two on and was charged with a run. Ryne Stanek came in and allowed that run to score but got out of the inning. With a 7-3 lead they went with Riley O'Brien in the 9th and despite it being a non-save situation he was perfect. He remains the closer and really the only guy worth rostering.

SEA: Jose A. Ferrer came on for the 7th with the score 4-4. He faced three batters and got one out. Seranthony Domínguez came in and got out of the inning without allowing a run. He would pitch the 8th as well allowing a two out single. Carlos Vargas pitched the 9th with the score still 4-4 and allowed a two out double but nothing else. With No Munoz tonight they went to Eduard Bazardo in the 10th with a 5-4 lead. He allowed a game ending two run dong on the third pitch he threw. He has been struggling the last month and he really shouldn't be rostered at this point. Brutal loss and Munoz and Speier are the guys I would roster for saves and holds.

ATH: Scott Blewett allowed a two run dong in the 6th with a 4-2 lead. He was charged with a blown save. Medina had the 7th, Harris had the 8th, and Alvarado had the 9th. None of them had much of an issue and Medina actually faced the top of the order. Chris Roycroft got the win despite allowing the ghost runner to score in the 10th. Harris and Alvarado are still locked in a battle for the 9th and my pick remains Harris.

TEX: The starter fell apart in the 5th and they used Jakob Junis to try and stop the bleeding. He did allow an inherited runner to score that made it 4-1 but he got out of the inning. Chase Silseth and Adam Macko gave up five runs in the 6th which pretty much ended it. Silseth can probably be cut in most leagues and I wouldn't worry about Junis. It was a big spot and this team needs to win. Latz is still the closer and Junis is my pick for holds.

ARI: Kevin Ginkel got two outs in the 5th with guys on second and third and the team down 1-0. He would pick up the win. Justin Martinez had an immaculate inning in the 6th and picked up a hold. They blew the game open after that and used Clarke and Santana. I list four guys in the closer committee and that doesn't include Loáisiga so you'll obviously see some of them early in the game. At this point it seems like Morillo and Garcia have the best chance at saves and JMart might not be worth the roster spot.

SDP: Yuki Matsui pitched a perfect 6th with the score 7-5. Adrian Morejon pitched a perfect 7th and Bradgley Rodriguez allowed a lead off double in the 8th but got a couple strikeouts to keep the score 7-5. All three guys picked up holds. Mason Miller had the 9th and got two quick outs before loading the bases and getting a strikeout to end it. It is nice to have two great options in the 7th and 8th and today we saw Morejon in the 7th to face Devers. Both guys are worth rostering for holds and Miller is the closer.
