LAB REPORTS
Bullpen Notes🗒️(9/8)
CLE: Tim Herrin got a couple outs to end the 5th with the score 6-5. He would return and strikeout two in the 6th. He picked up the win. Craig Yoho was perfect and got the next four outs to get them thought the 6th and 7th. With a 9-5 lead they used Hunter Gaddis in the 8th and Cade Smith in the 9th. Gaddis allowed one man to reach and Smith allowed two but neither guy allowed any runs. Smith is the closer and I prefer Sabrowski over Gaddis for saves but both guys are above average options.
PHI: They were down for all of the bullpen innings but used Tim Mayza, Brooks Raley, Chase Shugart, and José Alvarado. Raley was the only guy who gave up a run. I still think he is in the mix for holds despite todays outing. They are still looking for someone to step up and be the 8th inning option.
HOU: AJ Blubaugh started the 7th with a 6-3 lead. He allowed the first three to reach and one scored before getting a double play. They would bring in Bennett Sousa to get the final out and both guys picked up holds. Bryan Abreu pitched the 9th against the top of the order and he got the job done despite allowing a couple to reach. He would pick up a hold. Josh Hader had the 9th with a 6-4 lead and he struggled a bit. He allowed a single and double that scored a run but got the next three guys out and picked up the save. They are looking to fill Okert's role but Abreu is the 8th inning man and Hader is the closer.
NYM: Jonathan Pintaro came on in the 6th and allowed an inherited runner to score but picked up a hold. Nate Lavender let a couple on in the 7th but got out of the jam to pickup the hold. With a 7-4 lead in the 8th Dedniel Nunez was perfect and picked up a hold. Kodai Senga had the 9th and he allowed back to back doubles that made it 7-5 but he picked up the save. Williams is throwing from a mound but he could still be a week or more away if he returns at all. Senga is a good option for saves and he is now seven for seven.
MIN: A.J. Minter came on for the 6th and faced the middle of the order. He would have no issues and return two face two batters in the 7th. Andrew Morris got the final two outs of the 7th with the lead 3-2. Jeff Hoffman pitched a perfect 8th and all three of these guys picked up holds. Yoendrys Gomez pitched a perfect 9th and picked up the save. Gomez is the closer and I still would prefer Minter over Hoffman for holds. I still don't trust The Hoff in big spots.
LAA: Jose Fermin pitched the 7th with a 4-1 lead and he allowed the first three on with one scoring. Tayler Saucedo started the 8th and got a couple outs before walking a batter. Ryan Watson got the final out of the inning against his old team. Both guys picked up holds. They tacked on a couple runs but and used Samy Natera Jr. in the 9th. He allowed a lead off single but no runs. Joyce is the closer here but we know they wont use him back to back which opens the path to the 9th for Natera. They stink so it is hard to say roster Natera but there is potential.
COL: Mark Manfredi pitched a perfect 6th against the meat of the order with the team down 2-1. Jaden Hill had the 7th and walked a couple batters before getting out of the inning. Brennan Bernardino started the 8th and didn't get an out. He would allow a three run dong to the third batter he faced. Blas Castano came in and got all three outs in the inning. Tough night for Bernardino against a team he used to face often. I still like him for holds here but this team sucks so he probably isn't worth rostering. Romano is the closer and lets hope he can get through this series.
NYY: Brent Headrick pitched a perfect 8th with a 2-1 lead and picked up a hold. Tim Hill started the 9th and got two outs before giving up a two run dong to make it 5-3. Even with the bases empty they brought on David Bednar to get the final out and he picked up the save. Bednar Headrick and Blackburn are the three headed monster in the bullpen.
TBR: The bullpen was perfect today they did not qualify for any holds or saves. Kevin Kelly had the 7th, Cole Sulser pitched the 8th, and Bryan Baker finished the job in the 9th. Sulser was a late inning guy earlier in the year and has 11 holds. We need to see more before we can say he will be a high leverage guy. Baker pitched the 9th and was mainly throwing 93 and 94 which is somewhat concerning. It was good to see him get an inning in and he is the closer.
KCR: Connor Thomas and Alex Lange gave up runs in the 8th and 9th that put them down 2-0. They did tie it and send it to the 10th which Steven Cruz pitched and allowed the ghost runner to score. After tying it again Anthony Gose pitched the 11th and allowed a two runs to score. That would be the difference and he took the loss. Nothing changes here with Cruz as the closer and Pearson the best option for holds.
ARI: Kevin Ginkel pitched in the 5th and 6th with the game tied at 0-0. Dennis Santana pitched the 7th. Jonathan Loáisiga pitched the 8th with a 1-0 lead and he picked up a hold. With a 2-0 lead in the 9th Juan Morillo allowed a double and a dong that tied the game. He was charged with a blown save. Blake Walston pitched the 10th with the team down 3-2 and allowed a run. He was charged with a blown save. He would return for the 11th with a 5-3 lead and have no issues. That allowed him to pick up the win. The bullpen has gotten a lot of work recently. Garcia had pitched three days in a row and most of the other top guys have pitched three of four. Morillo might not see the next chance but I don't see anyone taking over the job. It remains a committee with about 5 guys who could see chances.
CHC: Trent Thornton, Aaron Civale, and Ryan Rolison got though the middle innings with the game tied at 1-1. Rolison had the most trouble allowing a couple guys to reach. With a 3-1 lead in the 9th Jacob Webb got a couple quick outs but allowed a single and a two run dong to tie it. He was charged with a blown save. Caleb Thielbar pitched in the 10th and allowed the ghost runner to score after getting an out. He took the loss. This is the best chance for Palencia to see the 9th. Webb is clearly struggling and if they make a move it is either Palencia or a committee.
MIL: Chad Patrick and Aaron Ashby got two outs in the 7th. Patrick hit a couple batters and the starter got the first out on the inning. The game was tied at 1-1. Antonio Senzatela pitched a perfect 8th. Trevor Megill started the 9th with the score still 1-1 and he finally had a rough outing. He allowed a two run double after loading the bases. DL Hall got the final two outs of the 9th and pitched a perfect 10th picking up a win. Megill was going to have a bad outing at some point but just one wont change his status as the closer. Uribe is still the 8th inning man and would be next up for saves.
SEA: Jose A. Ferrer allowed a couple inherited runners to score in the 4th. He would return for the 5th and walk a batter while getting an out with the team down 4-2. They brought in Eduard Bazardo and he got rocked. He allowed four of his own runs plus one of Ferrer's. That made the game 9-3 and it was all but over. Neither of these guts should be rostered as Bazrado has fallen off a cliff lately.
TOR: Spencer Miles was the only man used in the bullpen tonight and he pitched a perfect 8th and 9th inning. He picked up the save as they had a 4-2 lead at the time. They were giving the main guys a night off after they had pitched last night. I would love to see them use Miles in bigger spots like tonight but he remains more of an anytime pitcher for them. Rogers and Varland are the guys to roster.
WSN: They used a couple bulk guys to get though the first five innings. With a 3-0 lead they turned to Yovanny Cruz in the 6th. He walked a batter but got a double play and picked up a hold. Clayton Beeter had the 7th and allowed a run but picked up a hold. Jared Simpson started the 8th and walked all three guys he faced. Erik Tolman would come in and allow all of those runners to score plus one of his own. He would end up with the loss and blown save. The bullpen sucks as once again we see guys with under 10 innings pitching in the biggest spot in the game. Avoid everyone here. They set the record for most blown saves in a season.
SDP: They were down all game and David Morgan got the last out of the 8th which allowed him to pick up the win. Adrian Morejon was brought in for the 9th and he was pitching his third day in a row. He had no issues and picked up the save. Miller had pitched back to back so no concern here. Morejon is the 8th inning man and Miller is the closer.
SFG: With a 2-0 lead in the 7th Reiver Sanmartin pitched and picked up a hold. He allowed a one out single but got the job done. Carson Seymour started the 8th and loaded the bases. He did strikeout the last batter but the guy reach when the ball got away. He would pick up a hold. Joel Kuhnel got the final out of the 8th and returned for the 9th. He would allow a run and let the go ahead run reach second but he got the job done. I suppose Kuhnel could threaten Smith a bit but I think they were just giving Smith an extra day after he pitched two innings the other night. He is still the closer here.
LAD: Edgardo Henriquez came on in the 8th with a 3-2 lead and one out. He would allow a double but got the two outs needed to pick up the hold and send the game to the 9th. Tanner Scott walked the lead off batter in the 9th but picked up the save. He is the closer here and they use several other guys late in the game for holds.
