Bullpen Notes🗒️(9/7)

ATL: Didier Fuentes pitched the 7th and 8th with the game tied at 0-0. He was cursing along with four strikeouts until he allowed a dong to Schwarber with two outs in the 8th. He would end up with the loss. He is still a good option for holds but is behind Lee when he's right.

LAA: They were down 5-2 and used Ben Joyce in the 8th. He allowed a single but the guy was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. He hadn't pitched in four days so this was nothing more than a work outing. Joyce is the closer but Samy Natera Jr. should cover for him when he isn't available.

BOS: They had a 5-0 lead in the 6th when Wyatt Olds allowed a lead off solo dong. He would retire the next six batters he faced. Alex Gamboa had the 8th and he allowed a run and a couple hits. With a 5-2 lead in the 9th they went with Garrett Whitlock and he was perfect picking up the save. Chapman had pitched in three of four so an extra day off isn't a shock. Whitlock offers top end holds value and he will sneak in the occasional save as well.

BAL: The starter got into the 8th with a 6-1 lead and allowed a baserunner while getting an out before they went with Rico Garcia. He got the final two outs of the inning. It had been four days since Andrew Kittredge pitched so they brought him in for the non-save situation. He didn't pitch well allowing a couple singles and a three run homer before getting the second out and being pulled. Josh Walker came in with the score 6-4 and he got the final out to pick up the save. It has been a tough week for Kitty and the team but he is still the most likely to see saves. I wouldn't knock him for tonight as we know how tough it can be to pitch in non-save situations. Garcia is next up and the best option for holds.

KCR: With a 0-0 score Nate Pearson pitched a perfect 7th and 8th. Steven Cruz would get the 9th and after allowing the first two on he got a huge double play to help get him out of the jam. Craig Kimbrel has become their 3rd best option in the bullpen and he got smoked in the 10th allowing five runs one of which was the ghost runner. He picked up the loss. Cruz is the closer here and Pearson has been very solid but the team is bad so they don't see many saves or holds.

ARI: They were shorthanded today but went with a bullpen game. Taylor Clarke pitched the 6th and 7th with the game tied at 0-0. He allowed a single in the 6th. Brandyn Garcia faced the top of the order and he allowed a two out single pitching his third day in a row. As expected Justin Martinez had the 9th though it was still 0-0. He allowed a two out walk but picked up the win. Gerardo Carrillo had the 10th with a 5-0 lead and got hit hard again. He allowed four runs while getting one out. Dennis Santana came on and got the final two outs to pick up the save. That is back to back rough outings for Carrillo so he might find himself on the way back down. They didn't use three of the top options who had pitched back to back so I wouldn't put too much stock into todays usage. JMart will probably have a couple days off now while the rest of the committee sees the save chances.

CHI: Ryan Zeferjahn came on in the 8th with two on, none out, and a 2-1 lead. He would allow and RBI single that tied it, a walk, and he got an out. He was charged with a blown save. Jacob Webb made his return and allowed a Zef run to score on a sacrifice fly. It was a nice to see Webb back but they lost the game. Webb remains the closer and the 8th inning is up for grabs with Palencia and Zef as the best options.

MIL: Chad Patrick got the final out of the 5th and returned for the 6th with the game tied. Aaron Ashby would get a couple quick outs in the 7th before allowing a single, a walk, and an RBI single. Abner Uribe pitched the 8th with the team down 2-1 but would pick up the win. With a 4-2 lead in the 9th Trevor Megill allowed a solo dong to PCA but picked up the save. Nothing chances here as these are the guys I would expect to pitch the 7th, 8th, and 9th on most nights.

DET: Tyler Kinley pitched in the 6th and walked a couple to load the bases before getting the final out. The score was 5-4 so he picked up a hold. Jacob Waguespack pitched the 7th and Drew Sommers pitched the 8th and while both allowed runners neither gave up runs. They both picked up holds. Kenley Jansen had the 9th and walked the lead off batter but got a double play that ended the game and earned him the save. Kenley is the closer and the only guy worth rostering in this bullpen.

WSN: Prior to the game they placed Orlando Ribalta on the IL. That explains last nights absence. While he is used pretty inconsistently he has been one of the better options in the bullpen. Yovanny Cruz returns.

SDP: With a 3-0 lead in the 6th Kyle Hart allowed a two run dong but picked up a hold. Bradgley Rodriguez was perfect in the 7th and Adrian Morejon pitched a perfect 8th. Both guys picked up holds. Mason Miller allowed a one out single in the 9th but he picked up the save protecting the 3-2 lead. This is how the 7th, 8th, and 9th should set up and it is one of the better groups in the game.

STL: Justin Bruihl got four outs in the 7th and 8th with the team down 3-2. They tied it and used Ryne Stanek in the 9th. He loaded the bases but got out of it. Riley O'Brien had the 10th with a 4-3 lead and allowed the ghost runner to score. He was charged with a blown save though it wasn't a terrible one. George Soriano had the 11th with the game tied at 4-4 and he allowed the ghost runner to score and took the loss. Tough bullpen day for the main guys but they all stay in their respective roles.

SFG: Trent Harris had the 7th with a 3-1 lead and allowed a run but picked up a hold. Dylan Smith pitched the 8th against the meat of the order and he allowed a couple on but didn't allow a run. He would return for the 9th and allow the tying run on a bunch of weak contact. It still goes down as a blown save. Reiver Sanmartin got the final out of the inning. Jason Foley pitched the 10th and the 11th and allowed an unearned run in the 10th but ended up picking up the win. I still think Smith is the closer here since the rest of the bullen has been bad and tonight they tried to use him for two innings. He remains a very risky play on a bad team.

LAD: With a 2-1 lead Alex Vesia got the final out of the 6th and picked up a hold. This is why I like him since he gets these types of chances. Seth Halvorsen allowed a run in the 7th with the score 5-1. Jack Dreyer allowed a run in the 8th but picked up the hold. They used Evan Phillips in the 9th against the bottom of the order and he picked up the save with a 6-3 lead. Looks like Scott got an extra day off after pitching in three of four. He is still the closer here but they have been using a lot of guys. You can't cut Scott but he hasn't been very inconsistent lately.

TOR: They were down for the bullpen innings and used Brendon Little in the 6th, Paul Sewald and Mason Fluharty in the 7th and Tyler Rogers in the 8th. None of them allowed any runs. After tying the game they went with Louis Varland in the 9th and he struggled. He loaded the bases and with two outs McNeil hit a baby grounder to short and beat it out. He was charged with the loss. No worry about Varland as the closer as this was a non-save and it happens.

ATH: Luis Medina got three outs in the 7th but allowed an inherited runner to score. That made the game 5-4. He would return for the 8th and get two outs before putting two on. Hogan Harris would get the final out of the inning. Harris returned for the 9th and allowed a one out dong that tied it. He was charged with a blown save but would pick up the win when they scored in the bottom of the inning. I still like Harris here but outings like this keep the door open for Alvarado.
