Bullpen Notes 6/19/26
TOR
They got mauled but still managed to use 5 guys from the bullpen. Tyler Rogers pitched with the team down 11-2 and he ended up being charged with 5 runs. Fortunately they were all unearned. They also called up Brendon Little and while he pitched decently in the 5th he came back out for the 6 loaded the bases and walked in a run before getting pulled. He ended up being charged with 4 runs and his ERA went from 24.00 to 27.00. For a guy who was decent last year he has taken a huge step back.
CWS
Brandon Eisert was the opener today and he allowed two runs. Guess that is why they have been using Hudson. Seranthony Domínguez pitched the 8th with the team down. He hadn't pitch in a few days so this was more of a work outing than any type of demotion.
DET
Drew Anderson got the win getting out of the 6th and pitching the 7th. Will Vest walked a guy in the 8th but picked up a hold. Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect 9th picking up his 1st save since returning from the IL two weeks ago. He is locked in as the closer with Vest in the 8th and Finnegan working as the fireman earlier in the game.
TBR
They had a good bullpen day using most of the big arms. Steven Matz got through the 6th and into the 7th picking up a hold. Kevin Kelly got the last out of the 7th and let a couple guys on in the 8th picking up a hold. Garrett Cleavinger came on to get the last three outs of the inning including picking a guy off. He picked up a hold. Bryan Baker pitched the 9th and like normal had an easy inning picking up the save. Baker is the closer here and is one of the best. Cleavinger seems like the 8th inning holds guy and Kelly also picks up holds late in the game. Both could be worth a spot.
ATL
The big three got through the last 9 outs picking up 2 holds and a save. Lee let a guy on in the 7th before getting two outs. Suarez got out of the 7th but loaded the bases in the 8th before getting a groundout to end the inning. Raisel Iglesias came on for the 9th and he ran into some trouble with one out. A walk and a double put guys on 2nd and 3rd but the tying run was thrown out at home when the next batter singled. After that Iggy struck out the last batter and picked up the save. All three guys are worth rostering and they shouldn't struggle like this often.
MIL
Abner Uribe pitched in the 7th and allowed a solo homer. I wouldn't worry about it as this was just a work outing with the team down one. The run did end up being the difference in the game.
MIAFull bullpen game today and they used 8 of the 9 guys they have. Generally I throw out a lot of what we see in these games since high leverage guys tend to be used earlier in the game. Bender was pitching in the 3rd and 4th. Michael Petersen did give up a couple runs in his second inning which was the 6th. He seems to have been replaced by Calvin Faucher who got two outs in the 8th picking up a hold. Pete Fairbanks locked the door picking up his 10th save and not allowing a runner to reach. He is probably the only bullpen guy worth rostering and he is a mid closer right now.
TEX
Kind of a normal night for the bullpen. They used Junis and Latz to get the final 9 outs. Junis allowed a single in the 7th and in the 8th he gave up a leadoff homer to make the score 8-7. After getting the next two outs he gave up a single and got pulled for Latz who struck out the batter to end the inning. They added another run to give Latz a two run lead in the 9th and he allowed a one out single but had no other issues picking up the save. Junis is a good holds option and Latz could be a top 10 type closer at this point. The problem is these are the only two reliable arms in the bullpen. This is a team that should look to add at the deadline.
CLE
The bullpen struggled tonight. Matt Festa was charged with a blown save in the 6th allowing a three run homer to the 1st batter he faced and things went downhill from there. Erik Sabrowski returned from the IL and he gave up two runs in the 8th. Started with a walk before getting pulled after getting only one out. We'll see how he responds tomorrow but hopefully this was just rust. With Sabrowski back Herrin's holds stock takes a big hit and he can be cut.
KCR
They were up by four for most of the bullpen work. John Schreiber pitched the 7th and Daniel Lynch pitched the 8th. That lead to Matt Strahm starting the 9th. He got an out, allowed a single, got another out, allowed a double to make the score 6-3, and walked a guy to put runners on 1st and 2nd before getting pulled for Alex Lange. Lange threw a wild pitch that advanced the runners and allowed a single that score both (Strahm runs) before getting the final out. It goes in the books as a save. Lange is the closer and I'm not sure how much longer they keep Strahm in these important spots. He could still be hurt as well but he is a drop in all formats.
COL
Things got interesting in the 8th which they took a 2-0 lead into. The starter got an out and allowed back to back doubles before they brought in Jaden Hill. He allowed a single that scored a run (starters), got an out on a caught stealing, hit a batter, and allowed a run scoring triple that put them down 3-2. He was charged with a blown save. They took a 4-3 lead in the top half of the inning and turned to Antonio Senzatela who loaded the bases without getting an out but struck a guy out and got a double play to pick up the win. Vodnik was also up so I guess he would have pitched if it was tied. Senzatela is the most likely to get a save though I wouldn't waste my time with him.
PIT
Mason Montgomery had a 3-2 lead in the 8th and struggled after getting two quick outs. He ended up allowing a two run double and was charged with a loss and blown save. They need help in the bullpen and should be on the phone as you read this. Chapman or even a Helsley would do wonders in their quest to make the postseason.
ARI
The starter got hurt after the 1st so this turned into a bullpen game. They spent the early part of the game down before taking the lead in the 5th. Clarke pitched the 2nd so for a guy with that many holds that is somewhat surprising. Jonathan Loáisiga picked up the win getting out of the 5th and pitching the 6th. Brandyn Garcia had the 7th and he picked up a hold. Ginkel was in for the 8th with a 6-3 and he allowed a couple homers to make it a 6-5 game while picking up a hold. They added a couple on but still went with Sewald in the 9th even in a non save. Morillo was not used. Like I said with MIA I wouldn't put too much stock into the usage tonight as its more of an all hands on deck situation.
LAA
The bullpen gradually pissed away an 11-4 lead in the 6th. Mitch Farris had the 6th and 7th and allowed three runs. Chase Silseth was on for the 8th and he allowed a two run bomb before getting out of the inning but making the score 11-9. That allowed Sam Bachman to get a save chance. It started off okay as he got an out but allowed a runner to reach. He got another out and then gave up a two run game tying homer. He got the final out but not before allowing a couple bombs that were just foul. Kirby Yates started the 10th with the game tied and walked a guy, allowed both runners to steal, got a pop out, and hit a guy in the head before getting the hook. They brought in something called Samy Natera Jr. who walked in the game ending run. Horrible game. Yates is cooked and Bachman is probably back to the 8th so that means Ryan Zeferjahn is the closer.
ATH
They were down until the bottom of the 9th. The bullpen started poorly with Sterner giving up 4 runs in the 4th and 5th. Suarez gave one up in the 6th and pitched the 7th. Barlow pitched the 8th and didn't allow a run. It was his 1st decent appearance in a week. Elvis Alvarado pitched the top of the 9th and got out of that with a strike'em out throw'em out. He came back out for the 10th and they threw the ghost runner out at home and a grounder. He ended the inning with a heater that just overpowered the hitter to picked up the win. Honestly it was impressive and he looks every bit the part of a closer. I doubt he pitches tomorrow so Harris could see a chance.
LAD
Rough start to the night for the bullpen but they finished strong. Dreyer got out of the 6th and got an out in the 7th before being pulled for Klein. Klein let a couple on and allowed two to score on a single that put them down 5-3. Hurt pitched the 8th and Treinen had the 9th and neither guy had an issue. Treinen ended up getting the win as they rallied in the bottom of the 9th. Scott is the closer and Hurt and Vesia offer the best hold value in the bullpen.
BAL
Brutal finish to what should have been a nice victory. Kittredge pitched the 6th with the game tied. He would have been in line for the win. Wells had the 7th and got into the 8th recording two outs but allowing a single that got him pulled for Cano who ended the inning. Both guys picked holds. Obviously they turned to Ryan Helsley for the 9th and he got a quick out but things went south after that. He allowed a homer that made the score 5-4 and walked the next batter. After getting an out he walked another guy putting two on. The next batter hit a single to right that scored the guy from 2nd and the throw got past the catcher allowing the guy from 1st to score and ending the game. Loss and blown save for Helsley though one run was unearned. He has now allowed 4 earned runs in his two appearances since returning. Ill chalk this one up to rust again but we are fast approaching the danger zone here. Wells has become a solid holds option and Garica had pitched yesterday so that is probably why he got the night off.
