WSN: The starter walked a guy to start the 7th with a 1-0 lead and they turned to Clayton Beeter. He walked a guy in the 7th and pitched a perfect 8th to pick up the hold. Todays bullpen wheel spin in the 9th was Max Kranick and he faced four batters getting only one out with a 2-0 lead. Tom Cosgrove would come in and allow all of Kranick's runs to score as well as three of his own. Kranick got a hold and a loss and Cosgrove was charged with a blown save. Horrible bullpen management by a horrible manager. I wouldn't roster anyone here but Beeter is the best option for saves. He doesn't always get the chance and I consider it a committee.
MIA: Calvin Faucher got the final out of the 5th and pitched the 6th. He did face the top of the lineup but he was the first man out of the bullpen. Victor Vodnik had the 7th and Dax Fulton pitched the 8th down 1-0 and allowed a run. He would pick up the win after they rallied in the top of the 9th. Michael Petersen pitched the 9th with a 6-2 lead and allowed a lead off single but a got a double play. I like Ekness here as the closer though they likely keep it as a committee. Faucher should be in the mix and Petersen might be as well.
ATL: The starter got into the 7th with a 2-1 lead and let a runner on. Dylan Dodd struck the final batter out and picked up a hold. Dylan Lee hadn't pitched in three days so he was back in the 8th and he struggled again blowing the save. Lead off single and another hit in the inning. Raisel Iglesias pitched a perfect 9th. Victor Mederos pitched the 10th and didn't allow the ghost runner to score. We are in a real danger zone with Lee. I would recommend removing him from the lineup. I think he has just pitched too many innings. Fuentes and Dodd would get the boost for holds.
SEA: The bullpen issues continue though they were down today. Gabe Speier allowed a solo homer in the 6th. Nick Davila got tagged for three runs in the 8th. Speier has been a decent holds guy and could be rostered.
CLE: It was a blowout but they used Tim Herrin in the 7th, Hunter Gaddis in the 8th and Cade Smith in the 9th. None of them allowed a run and for Gaddis and Smith it was just an inning to get some work in. Erik Sabrowski remains a better option for holds over Herrin and possible Gaddis.
SDP: With a 3-1 lead in the 7th and 8th they used Bradgley Rodriguez and Adrian Morejon. Both guys pitched well with Morejon hitting a batter. They would both pick up holds. Mason Miller came on for the 9th allowed a lead off single, got a couple outs, and gave up a game tying two run dong. Go watch the highlight as the outfield caught the ball but when he hit the wall it came out of his glove and went over. Miller was charged with a blown save and a couple runs. Yuki Matsui kept the ghost runner from scoring in the 10th but in the 11th David Morgan who was pitching with a 4-3 lead allowed two runs and was charged with a blown save and loss. Despite the blown save Miller is still the best closer in the game and Morejon is the best option for holds.
TBR: Cam Booser allowed an unearned run in the 7th to put them down 3-1. Casey Legumina pitched the 8th and Manuel Rodríguez had the 9th with both guys allowing runners but not allowing runs. After tying the game Bryan Baker pitched the 10th and kept the ghost runner from scoring. Tyler Wells had the 11th and despite allowing the ghost runner to score he would pick up the win. Same old story here with Baker as the closer and Kelly as the best holds option in what is a much better looking bullpen then prior to the deadline.
TEX: Tyler Alexander pitched the 4th and 5th and picked up a win. Adam Macko pitched the 6th and picked up a hold. Jordan Montgomery pitched the 7th with a 7-2 lead but allowed a two run homer. Jakob Junis allowed a two out double in the 8th and picked up a hold. Jacob Latz pitched a perfect 9th and he would end up picking up a save. That is the 8th and 9th combo we have been waiting for since Junis returned from the IL and those two are worth rostering for holds and saves.
PIT: With a 4-2 lead in the 6th Kirby Yates pitched a perfect inning and picked up a hold. Camilo Doval started the 7th with a 5-2 lead and faced 6 batters getting two outs on a sac fly and a strikeout. He would end up being charged with two runs and Yohan Ramirez got the final out of the inning. Both guys picked up holds. Luke Weaver allowed a lead off single in the 8th but protected the 5-4 lead picking up a hold. Mason Montgomery had the 9th and was perfect picking up the save. Soto was resting today but you need to add Monty for saves and Weaver for holds.
HOU: AJ Blubaugh pitched the 6th and 7th allowing a one out double in the 6th. He would pick up a hold. With a 6-3 lead in the 8th Bryan Abreu got the first two outs before walking the next two and being replaced by Steven Okert who would get the last out of the inning. Both guys picked up holds. Josh Hader pitched the 9th and allowed a double but picked up the save. With Sousa's recent run of poor play Blubaugh has replaced him in the middle innings. Okert and Abreu are the guys to roster if you are looking for holds.
BAL: The backups did most of the work here with Kitty and Garcia having pitched back to back. Anthony Nunez got the final out of the 6th and pitched the 7th with a 7-5 lead picking up a hold. Josh Walker had the 8th with an 8-5 lead and allowed a one out single but picked up the hold. Yennier Cano who had pitched back to back days got the 9th and he picked up the save with a perfect inning. I don't think this does anything for Cano and I still believe Garcia is the better option for holds and Kittredge is the closer.
PHI: They were a bit shorthanded with Duran and Bowlan resting. Alex McFarlane walked the lead off hitter in the 7th with a 2-1 lead but got out of the inning and picked up a hold. José Alvarado started the 8th with a 4-1 lead and got a couple outs while allowing a couple singles. Orion Kerkering would come on and get the final out of the inning. He would return for the 9th with a 5-2 lead and give up a run but picked up the save. Duran is obviously the closer here but Bowlan is the guy I think has the best chance for holds. Kerk is more of a middle innings guy right now.
CHC: They were down for the bullpen innings. Caleb Thielbar pitched the 6th and struck out the side. Trent Thornton allowed a solo dong in the 7th that made it 7-3. Aaron Civale pitched the 8th and Jacob Webb got a work inning in pitching the 9th. He hadn't pitched since 8/25. Webb is still the closer here but if he blows a save we could see Palencia take over. Palencia could take over regardless as he gets more work in and proves he is healthy.
CIN: Brock Burke got the final out of the 6th with a 6-3 lead. He would return for the 7th and allow lead off single. He picked up a hold. Luis Mey pitched the 8th with a 7-3 lead and allowed a lead off double and a run. With a 7-4 lead in the 9th Emilio Pagán was brought in for the save chance. He got a couple quick outs and allowed a dong to PCA. He would get the final out and pick up the save. Pagán continues to be a stud and he has made a huge difference for this team when he has been active. They don't have a guy I would roster for holds.
