Bullpen Notes🗒️(8/26)

DET: Tyler Kinley who they signed the other day pitched a perfect 8th with the team down 3-0. Kyle Finnegan pitched the 9th and allowed a lead off single. I wouldn't roster either of these guys.

TBR: Kevin Kelly was perfect in the 7th and 8th innings with a 3-0 lead and picked up a hold. Tyler Wells had the 9th today and he was perfect picking up the save. Baker had pitched three days in a row before being off last night so I am going to assume they just gave him another nights rest. Kelly remains the best option for holds on this team.

CHC: They were down 1-0 and used Trent Thornton in the 7th and he allowed a hit. In the 8th they used Ryan Zeferjahn and he allowed a couple hits and a run. These two are the next in line if Webb and Palencia continue to struggle.

ARI: Brandyn Garcia pitched the 8th with a 1-0 lead and allowed a two out walk. The inning was against the 9, 1, and 2 hitters and he picked up a hold. Juan Morillo pitched a perfect 9th and picked up the save. I'm not surprised by Garcia's outing he was brought in to face PCA. He is going to face the other teams best LHB late. I am surprised that they went with Morillo over Ginkel. I like Morillo but they really haven't used him in spots like this. JMart had pitched last night so we knew he would be off. Really this is just making it more of a committee until JMart is ready to pitch every other day instead of every three.

SFG: With a 6-2 lead in the 7th Jason Foley faced four batters and got an out while loading the bases. Ryan Walker got the final two outs but did allow a Foley run and walked a batter. Walker would pick up a hold. Spencer Bivens pitched the 8th with a 6-3 lead and he would return for the 9th with a 9-3 lead. The meltdown began with him as he faced four batters and didn't get an out. Dylan Smith would come on with the bases loaded and the score 9-4 and allow a grand slam to the first batter he faced. Smith's outing didn't get any better as he only got an out while allowing another three to reach and two scored. Reiver Sanmartin got the final two outs with the team down 10-9. Bivens was charged with 4 runs and picked up a hold for his work in the 8th and Smith was charged with 3 runs (1 unearned) and he got a loss and a blown save. This bad outing seriously jeopardizes Smith's hold on the closers role. They could certainly use Seymour again or maybe Trent Harris. It looks like we might see a committee here.

CIN: Julian Garcia came in for the 5th with one out, one on, and the team down 4-2. He would get the final three outs but return and allow two runs in the 6th. Brock Burke pitched a perfect 7th with the team down 6-3. Tony Santillan struggled in the 8th allowing three runs but he would end up picking up the win. They scored seven runs in the top of the 9th and Emilio Pagán got the save in the 10-9 game. There have been some questions with his velo but he continues to defy the odds and get the job done. I would continue to avoid Santillan who hasn't looked good since returning from the IL.

LAA: Sammy Peralta got the final out of the 6th, pitched the 7th, and allowed a runner to reach in the 8th with a 3-1 lead. He would pick up a hold but was allowed a run in the 8th. Luke Murphy got the three outs in the 8th but did allow the inherited runner to score while picking up a hold. Ryan Watson was brought in for the 9th and allowed two runs. He would be charged with a blown save and a loss. Ben Joyce had pitched last night so it was no surprise that he was resting. Watson who as DFA'd at the beginning of the month has been pitching in big spots and largely failing as that was his second blown save in as many nights. I would expect them to give someone else a chance next time Joyce isn't available and maybe Natera will be back by then. It's Joyce's job and no one else in the bullpen is worth rostering.

CLE: Tim Herrin pitched the 7th and got an out in the 8th with the team down 3-2. Hunter Gaddis came in and got the final two outs of the 8th. They took a 4-3 lead and used Erik Sabrowski in the 9th and he allowed a lead off single but got the next three out and picked up the save. Smith had pitched the last two nights so no surprise that he had this one off. I have been telling you to pick up Sabrowski since he has looked good recently and if you did it paid off with a rouge save. He is back to pitching in high leverage spots and is a must add in holds leagues due to his strikeout rate.

SDP: Jeremiah Estrada hit the IL prior to the game with a shoulder issue. He has battled injuries all year so we will see if this is the one that finally ends his season. With a 2-0 lead in the 6th they used Kyle Hart and he picked up a hold despite allowing the first two on. Griffin Canning faced three batters in the 7th getting one out. Yuki Matsui allowed a single that loaded the bases but got the final two outs and both guys picked up holds. Bradgley Rodriguez pitched the 8th and 9th with a 2-0 lead. He allowed the first two on in the 8th and was perfect in the 9th and he picked up the save. Miller and Morejon had pitched back to back nights. Rodriguez moves into the higher leverage spot with Estrada out but Morejon is still the guy to roster for holds.

SEA: They lost but used all the guys you would expect to see in big spots. None of them allowed a run today. I would say Eduard Bazardo provides the best option for holds.

MIA: With a 2-0 lead, two on, and two out in the 6th Victor Vodnik came in and got the final out. He would return and pitch a perfect 7th to pick up a hold. Jansen Junk who has been starting pitched the 8th against the meat of the order and got a hold. They opened up the game to 4-0 and Dax Fulton pitched the 9th. The main guys had pitched a lot the last two nights. I like Ekness for the 9th and Petersen for the 8th but Faucher will certainly be in the mix as well.

WSN: They got smoked but Will Dion, Luis Perales, and Orlando Ribalta all gave up four runs. Clayton Beeter got the final out in the 7th with the team down 8-1. No idea why he was in with that score but that is the problem with Beeter. I would avoid him and the rest of this bullpen.

TOR: Bullpen game today which saw Spencer Miles pitch the 1st, 2nd, and to one batter in the 3rd who got on. He didn't allow a run. The rest of the lesser guys got the ball to the 8th with a 3-0 lead. I suppose Mason Fluharty could have some value as the LHP late but there are better options out there for holds. Tyler Rogers started the 8th and got two outs before he let two on and Varland came in to get the final out. Varland would return for the 9th and get two outs before allowing two on and picking up the save. Rogers picked up a hold. Rogers and Varland remain the guys to roster here.

HOU: Kai-Wei Teng got the final out of the 6th with the team down 3-2. With the game tied in the 7th Bennett Sousa gave up four runs and took the loss. Enyel De Los Santos gave up two in the 8th. None of these guys should be rostered.

NYY: Prior to the game Fernando Cruz hit the IL. He has been awful so this isn't a shock. Paul Blackburn was charged with a blown save in the 7th when he allowed the starters inherited runner to score. He would pick up the win as they blew the game open in the bottom of the inning. They signed and activated Michael Fulmer who had been cut by the LAA which tells you how much trouble this bullpen is in right now. Bednar, Headrick, and Blackburn are the guys to roster.

LAD: They used Edgardo Henriquez to get two outs in the 4th. He allowed two inherited runners to score which put them down 4-3. Eric Lauer allowed a run while pitching the 5th and 6th. Evan Phillips allowed runner in the 7th and Brock Stewart allowed two in the 8th with the game tied 5-5. Tanner Scott had the 9th with the game still tied and he allowed a two out double, walk, and single that ended the game. That is back to back loses for Scott. I'm not worried about his as the closer and we still don't have much for answers as to who will get holds. All the guys who pitched today besides Lauer are in the mix with Vesia.

ATL: Dylan Dodd picked up a hold in the 6th pitching with a 4-3 lead. Dylan Lee faced four batters in the 7th with a 5-3 lead and didn't get an out. He would be charged with two runs. Didier Fuentes came in and walked one of Lee's runners in but got through the 7th and the 8th. He also loaded the bases in the 8th. Victor Mederos pitched a perfect 9th with the score tied an picked up the win. Lee's struggles continue and he seems like he needs a break. Not sure if the bullpen will survive if that happens. Fuentes and Dodd would get bumps for holds.

TEX: Chase Silseth came in with two outs in the 4th and allowed an inherited runner to score. He would get two outs in the 5th before being pulled for Robby Ahlstrom who allowed a two run dong with a run for each guy. Ahlstrom gave up four more runs in the 6th. Junis pitched the 8th with the team down 10-4. He is the only guy worth rostering here besides Latz.

CWS: Sean Newcomb picked up a win pitching the 4th, 5th, and 6th. Jonathan Cannon finished out the game which was a blowout and allowed two runs but picked up the save since he pitched three innings. Grant Taylor is the closer here and Newcomb's usage today is another indication of that.

STL: With the game tied at 5-5 in the 6th, 7th, and 8th they used Luis Gastelum, Ryne Stanek, and George Soriano. Gaseelum was the only guy who didn't allow a runner. Riley O'Brien had the 9th and allowed a lead off single followed by a double which put them down 8-7. He took the loss and that is now runs in back to back outings though neither was a save situation. He remains the closer with Soriano and Stanek as the holds options.

BAL: Alex Hoppe allowed an inherited runner to score in the 5th which tied the game at 7-7. Josh Walker got two outs in the 6th before Rico Garcia came on and got the next 4 outs allowing only a walk. Grant Wolfram pitched the 8th against the bottom of the order and would pick up a win. Andrew Kittredge had the 9th with an 8-7 lead and allowed a lead off single and a one out walk before getting out of the inning. He picked up the save. He was facing the meat of the order as well. Kitty is the best option for saves but he tends to face the middle of the order in the 8th and 9th. Garcia is the other option for saves.

MIN: Andrew Morris was back to pitching like shit in the 6th. He came on with a 4-2 lead, one out, and a man on. He would allow the inherited runner to score and three of his own which put them down 6-4. He was charged with a blown save and a loss. He would get an out in the 7th and Kody Funderburk allowed a solo homer but got an out of the inning. He would get two outs in the 8th and Jeff Hoffman came on to end the inning with a runner at second. Morris has collapsed which is making Minter the best option for holds and Gomez is still the closer.

ATH: Things are happening here. Brady Basso pitched the 7th and 8th with a with a lead and picked up the hold. Elvis Alvarado pitched the 9th and he allowed a couple to reach but got he save. That is now back to back nights and while I am not ready to say the job is his he is making the most of his chances. It appears we now have Co-Closers here with him and Hogan Harris. This team isn't playing for anything so getting Alvarado some looks might be the plan down the stretch.
