Bullpen Notes🗒️(7/25)

DET: Kyle Finnegan started the 7th with a 2-1 and allowed a solo homer to make it 2-2. He was charged with a blown save. He didn't get out of the inning and Tyler Holton got the final two outs and the first out of the 8th. With the game tied in the 8th Jacob Waguespack got a couple outs and returned for the 9th. He allowed a one out homer that ended up being the game ending run. Kenley is the closer but every loss could turn them into sellers at the deadline.

KCR: Daniel Lynch pitched a perfect 8th throwing 10 pitches with the game tied at 2-2. He started the 9th against a LHB and allowed a single. He picked up the win. Alex Lange put another guy on in the 9th but was able to get three outs and pick up the save. Lange remains the closer here and while Lynch is the 8th inning man I do think Steven Cruz might leap frog him for the 9th if Lange is moved. They are definitely selling at the deadline so we will see what things look like on August 3rd.

WSN: Eddy Yean got the last out of the 7th with a guy on first and pitched a perfect 8th. He picked up a hold. Clayton Beeter had a one, two, three 9th which is rare and picked up a save. Both guys were in with a 5-3 lead. The bullpen really doesn't have set roles so it's tough to say what Yean could be. I would love to see anyone take over the 8th but they use the bullpen guys to inconsistently for that to happen. Beeter is the best option for saves and if they can get though the 7th and 8th they will turn to Beeter. It is just vary rare for it to happen like today.

SFG: Keaton Winn pitched in the 9th with the score 9-1. He allowed a couple hits and a couple walks and walked a runner in. He is still about a week off the IL so this feels like just a work inning. I think Miller is currently the best option for saves for the time being.

TBR: Cole Sulser was perfect in the 7th picking up a hold. Garrett Cleavinger pitched the 8th allowing a two out walk but picking up a hold. Bryan Baker allowed a one out single but picked up the save. I think Cleavinger is the guy to roster for holds but Sulser and Kelley are in the mix. Baker continues to impress as the closer and is one of the best ones in the game.

PHI: Bullpen game so don't look too much into the usage. Mayza started and went a couple innings. Brian Keller was called up and pitched three innings and no he is not related to Brad. Kyle Backhus ended up taking the loss giving up a run in the 6th. José Alvarado, Jonathan Bowlan and Jhoan Duran all pitched with the team down late in the game.

NYY: Angel Chivilli got the final out of the 6th after allowing a single and he picked up a hold. Paul Blackburn pitched the 7th and 8th allowing just a walk in the 8th. He also picked up a hold. David Bednar pitched a perfect 9th for his second save in as many nights. He has been great the last couple months. The bullpen has actually been very good and Blackburn and Chivilli are moving up in rank. Cruz and Headrick are still the better guys to roster but they have a pretty deep bullpen despite what the fan base might believe. They should still be adding at the deadline.

CHC: Javier Assad picked up a save in a blowout. He pitched the final three innings without much difficulty. Nothing to see here for fantasy.

PIT: Isaac Mattson, Ron Marinaccio, and Brandon Eisert gave up six runs in their 2.2IP. Pretty ugly day for all of these guys with Mattson taking the brunt of the beating. I am not really sure Marinaccio is any better than Hunter Stratton for those wondering.

BAL: Grant Wolfram picked up a hold in the 7th allowing a double and getting two outs. Rico Garcia had the 8th with a 2-1 lead and allowed a homer to the lead off batter that tied it. He has now blown saves in the 8th on back to back days. Yennier Cano pitched a perfect 9th and picked up the win. Garcia has fallen off a cliff and shouldn't be rostered anymore. I did think he could be one of the last men standing and back into the 9th after the deadline but I am no longer sure about that. Wells remains the best option for saves here for the time being.

ATL: Victor Mederos pitched the 6th and the 7th with the team down 2-1. Didier Fuentes had the 8th and the 9th and he allowed a double and a two out single in the 9th that scored a run and ended the game. He might have some low end fantasy value but he really hasn't seen many holds since Suarez went down. Lee is still the guy to roster if you are looking for holds.

MIL: They had a 7-2 lead in the 7th when they brought in Chad Patrick who pitched a perfect inning. In the 8th they turned to Lance McCullers Jr. and he walked a couple while getting three outs. He returned for the 9th and should have had an easy inning but an error cost him an out. He eventually walked the bases loaded and allowed a two run single that turned it into a save situation for Trevor Megill. Megill gave up a single that made it 8-5 but struck out the next batter and picked up the save. Megill is on of the best in the game and has run away with the job since taking it back over.

MIN: The actual bullpen guys got through the final 5 innings and helped them shutout the A's. Taylor Rogers let a couple on in the 5th and pitched a perfect 6th picking up the win. Tommy Nance allowed a two out double in the 7th but picked up a hold. Andrew Morris walked the lead off guy and made an error that put two on but battled back and got out of the 8th inning. Yoendrys Gomez was perfect in the 9th and picked up the save. Right now Gomez and Morris are the guys to roster for saves and holds. The rest of the bullpen should cover the innings before and Nance seems to see high leverage spot more than the rest. I would expect them to sell at the deadline so maybe Gomez is moved but remember he was a DFA add earlier in the season. Morris will not be moved so he would be next up.

HOU: They had a 4-0 lead in the 8th and turned to Bryan Abreu. He let the first two men on before getting two outs and getting pulled for Bennett Sousa. Sousa got the final out of the inning to keep it a 4-0. He returned for the start of the 9th and allowed a couple singles that scored a run. They went with Hader after that since it had turned into a save situation. Hader struck out the final two batters to pick up the save. Hader has been great and the rest of the bullpen could still use some help. They did bring King back up today so maybe he has corrected his issues in the week he was down.

NYM: Williams is the closer here but if they move a bunch of the bullpen guys Huascar Brazoban could see himself pitching in the 9th or as the main holds option. He did pitch the 9th tonight with the team down 4-3 and had no issues. Just a name to keep an eye on.

LAD: With a 4-1 lead in the 7th they went with Alex Vesia and he allowed a two out walk while picking up a hold. The 8th was a little bit rockier with Edgardo Henriquez hitting a batter and walking a batter before getting a couple strike outs. He was pulled for Tanner Scott who allowed a two run double (both Henriquez's runs) and an intentional walk before getting a strikeout to end the inning. With the score 4-3 in the 9th they went with Brock Stewart who pitched a perfect inning. It was his first save as a Dodger in 9 years. Fun stat from the broadcast. At this point I assume Diaz will be back Tuesday but they don't really need to rush him. When he does return it will be to the 9th and Scott will be the main holds option. The rest of the guys getting holds now will take a step back into the 6th and 7th and limit their fantasy value.
